ALL,
After gathering the courage I installed an AUX input on the CTS-V today.

Here are the instructions:

I will warn those of you who are faint of heart, this does require you to cut and splice 3 wires (it took me 2 days to summon the courage to try this, but it works fine).

Also, you WILL still have the ability to use all of your accessories (XM, changer, etc).. BUt this does require that you have the XM module on the car (for those non Vs)
Total price is about $50-60.

I am not the best at writing instructions so those of you who read this and are confused, e-mail me and I will clarify. Its hard on this one because there are alot of options.

Thanks miscreant and PACaudio for helping on this one.

Nice pics, easy to read explanation. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, as well as other owners who will find your post very useful. Congratulations.

I don't see any reason that can't be done at the head unit. The 8 pin Junior Timer connector on Radio Connector 3 is a very common connector (BMW, Volkswagen, Audi) and it has everything you need on that one connector (input, ground, and battery power) except the class 2 which is on connector 1...

Ron, are you saying Reed's aux inputs can be replicated behind the dash? With off-the-shelf aftermarket components? If so, tell us more! :)

Miscreant,
Does that XM connector combine to another before it connects to the radio or is it still a separate connector when it goes into the back of the radio? It would have been nice to know this before I did the mod....

EDIT
Ok I just looked at the schematic... It looks like Radio C3 connector has the XM inputs on themů. You would just have to have the male/female version and wire every other wire straight through and splice out the audio + (R and L) and the common to make this work. I already did it my way, but if someone wants to put this together... more power to them,,,

Does anyone have a picture of the back of the radio?

You'd also have to tap the Class 2 at connector 1 as well, no big deal though.

I 've been talking to Brett at PAC all morning about this. He's in big time and is going to be testing it out to make it work for non-xm equipped cars too.

I'll try to remember to get it tonight. I have my original laying in a box.

Here's two pics of the standard non-nav radio (Nav unit looks the same except has an SMB connector for GP antenna to the right, and the Export Video connector [see third & forth pictures of my Nav] btw, pic 4 shows the vehicle speed sensor add on wire)

You've also now got almost halfway to a hands free kit for an outside (non-onstar) cell fone (using AUX2). Now wire in the mic (which I hear is really lousy) , or another mic to a HFK and you could even put in a blue tooth module somewhere in the car. Just an idea.

how do you select the aux as the input from the menus?

ctsvett

This is a workaround... You need to have the XM module so that you can put the radio in the XM mode (wihtout the XM module present, you cant get the radio into that mode). You then use the switch on the PAC adapter (remote mounted if desired) to swtich between the XM input, or AUX 1 or 2.

So, you dont switch the input in the menus, you just put the radio in XM mode.

Did that make sense?

gotchya, so the radio unit thinks it playing what its getting from XM but its really playing the ipod or whatever.
what does it show on teh screen? the xm radio stuff because it comes from a different line?

ctsvett

Yes. it will show the XM screen... Changing this would require a module to send information over the Class 2 serial data bus which I dont know/think is possible.... Could be very expensive.
