Is this forum hosted out of someone's garage? Has the person that runs it ever heard of a hosting service? GoDaddy hosting at $100/year is faster than this! Come on!

GoDaddy hosting at $100/year is faster than this! Come on! cozmo 08-18-09, 04:17 PM It is all of the ads and other junk loading from external sites that slow it down so much. I guess that's the price you gotta pay for free information. Sevillian273 08-18-09, 04:36 PM Works ok for me. Try the latest version of FireFox(3.5) I believe its hosted by Madison Ross Media Group. submariner409 08-18-09, 05:33 PM .............run out of anything BUT someone's garage...........of course you could become a Supporting Member and thereby lose a large percentage of ad loads........TANSTAAFL. The Tony Show 08-18-09, 07:26 PM I'd like to see your $100 godaddy site handle a few thousand simultaneous page views, all day, every day. Join as a Supporting Member (http://www.cadillacforums.com/subscribe.html) to get fewer ads and lots of other benefits, or continue to enjoy all the info here free of charge, with slightly longer load times than Premium Members- it's totally up to you. :) inurok 08-18-09, 10:00 PM Even before i joined a paying member the site was quick enough for me. I have been on way way slower sites trust me. TSS 08-19-09, 09:56 AM Yes, it could be slower. It is a free site, and a darn great one at that. If anyone's life if so busy that nano-seconds count, you need to simplify. Maybe it is faster for me because of being a supporter...I really don't know. But perhaps try it for a month to find out. Lord Cadillac 08-19-09, 12:08 PM Yes, the site CAN be slow for non-supporting members. It's really a small price to pay for the amount of information you get here. And yes, there are thousands of people browsing this site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "Cadillac" does not have a large aftermarket like other busy automotive forums out there. This place relies on network advertisements, supporting vendors and supporting members. Supporting members see less ads and as a result experience faster page loading. People asked for more - and we gave it to them: platinum supporters see ZERO network ads - dramatically speeding up page loading... If we could have 50-60 or even 100 advertisers(we have 11) like some other automotive forums have, we'd have NO network ads at all.. But that's just not reality.. And we are CERTAINLY not hosted by a cheap company... hueterm 08-19-09, 10:30 PM Is this forum hosted out of someone's garage? Has the person that runs it ever heard of a hosting service? GoDaddy hosting at $100/year is faster than this! Come on! Um, since you're not paying anything for it -- what do you have to complain about??? JimmyH 08-20-09, 07:55 PM Funny how all the people who complain don't pitch in a dime... And I agree with others, this site is very fast considering it has NO corporate sponsor. Lord Cadillac 08-20-09, 10:13 PM this site is very fast considering it has NO corporate sponsor. So true.. WE pay for it. And I don't think we're doing too bad... :) thebigjimsho 08-21-09, 01:34 AM The OP is just a cheap bastard... hcvone 08-21-09, 09:37 AM Slow is one thing, the last few days it's so slow you can hammer messages on a stone tablet faster than this Forum has been. :( Lord Cadillac 08-21-09, 01:09 PM Slow is one thing, the last few days it's so slow you can hammer messages on a stone tablet faster than this Forum has been. :( If it were that slow for everybody, we would see a big decrease in participation and activity. Things like this are usually due to ISP ups and downs and things like that.. I've been browsing along the past few days without any issues... JimmyH 08-21-09, 04:21 PM Me too. There are times when that goofy openx.net likes to put the hamper on things. But not lately. And as I said before, what is between you and the cadillacforums server has a lot to do with it too. RightTurn 08-22-09, 12:17 AM Slow is one thing, the last few days it's so slow you can hammer messages on a stone tablet faster than this Forum has been. :( thebigjimsho 08-22-09, 04:30 PM Forum browsing has been fine for me the last few days as well. hcvone 08-24-09, 08:40 AM If it were that slow for everybody, we would see a big decrease in participation and activity. Things like this are usually due to ISP ups and downs and things like that.. I've been browsing along the past few days without any issues... That's strange because I received 6 e-mails from unhappy members that complained how slow this Forum was last week, as IU said many times I moderate several Forums, none were like this last week | |
