Was thinking of buying that and fixing it up until I found out that it only makes 295hp and 305tq. WTF? My 94 Silverado makes 210 and 300, I know engines have come further than this in 15 years. Sure that is a 4.8 and mine is a 5.7, but still. I wanted it for the 4x4, do you guys think it'd be worth doing? It does only have 62km......Of course it all depends how much I can get it for.....

I'd go see it first. That thing looks pretty twisted.... I bet the frame is bent.

My grandfather has that GMC but in gold and with the 4.8 and that truck was quicker then the 300hp 5.4 that was in my F150 Screw.

its all about gearing. Change the rear in your F1fiddy and youre beating him like a rented mule.

What does "salvageable" mean? As in for parts? That does look bad. At least the Line-X bedliner held up. :o

Salvageable means you can repair it and get it back on the road.

Well I'm just thinking, this truck has 85 more hp and 5 more tq, but is 2x the weight of my truck. I'm thinking it'd be pretty sluggish. But it would be nice to get an 09 vehicle :yup:

I always buy Ford Trucks!Find a rebuilder powerstroke and make 500hp and get better mileage.

It really just looks like the box i ssmashed in though. There's a fair but of clearence between the box and the frame, at least in my truck.

My dad has an '08 F250 Powerstroke and it's seriously impressive for a truck. 650 lb/ft of torque FTW!

Maybe, but I'd still take a Duramax or a Cummins any day of the week.

True the powerstroke 6.0 is pure garbage and the new 6.4 is not too far behind i hear.

Correct. The 6.0 had problems with headgaskets, injectors and turbos. Stay away. The 7.3 was an amazing engine, and the 6.4 isn't much better than the 6.0...plus with the second turbocharger, there's even less room to work on anything under the hood.

The early Duramax's ('01 and '02) had problems with Injectors as well, but atleast GM redesigned those and would replace them under warranty before 100k and then warranty the new ones for even more miles.

Either way, the Cummins is the best pickup truck diesel engine by far. None of the problems of the other makes and unbeatable reliability and power.

.....and its the only I-6. Which, considering that that's what's used in semis, seems to be the best configuration for a diesel. V8's are great gas burning engines, but not so much for diesels.

Oh, BTW, what are your thoughts about the original post?

Duramax dominates in speed. The Cummins and the Powerstroke are good for power, but with the same mods the Duramax will always win.

Yeah, the Duramax certainly is fast. Its my first choice in diesel, and I'll get one of those down the road anyway. I wanted to see if I could get this truck as a starter vehicle, then resell it and get something better.

I love my 7.3 Power Stroke engine!I hope to get 500,000 miles out of it,I get up to 17mpg on the highway. There are $hit loads of awesome deals on rebuilders around here, just because Ford out sells Chevy so big in the super duty truck market. My point is the better resale goes hands down to the diesel.

Before the duramax, Ford owned the heavy duty diesel market. Now days I see just as many Chevys as I do Ford diesels, for personal use vehicles. Still see more commerical/custom box Fords though.

Yeah but dealers around here charge a huge premium for used diesel powered vehicles like they are gold plated or something so i agree.

Well they are more reliable and last longer, so they do retain value better than gas powered vehicles

Yes no Doubt.
