View Full Version : A Time to Reflect... thebigjimsho 08-16-09, 06:51 PM I'm sitting on I-74 in Shelbyville, IN right now. I am fine. However, there are 3 people badly injured, 2 I believe fighting for their lives right now.
I didn't see initial impact but I saw things flying up ahead as I was heading toward Cincinnati on I-74 E. A woman in a Honda Accord was bumped off the eastbound side and hit by a westbound Malibu. The Accord was split in two, with the back half flipping up and landing in a creek just off the westbound highway. The Malibu ended up well off the breakdown lane of the westbound side. The highway is still closed down and the westbound side will be for hours...
I only took pics of the accident scene, not the people. I'll show them when I can. I am shocked the woman in the Accord was not killed instantaneously. The car was severed right behind the b-pillar and when I first got out of the car, she was motionless. Others were tending to her and she was actually moving a little and mumbling.
But I am sure if she and the people in the Malibu survive, it will be a long, long recovery...
My pleasure trip is about 2 hours behind schedule but I can't get my mind off the fact I am healthy and breathing while others had their well-being snuffed out in an instant... RightTurn 08-16-09, 08:07 PM Wow. Nothing like a reality check. Take care, babe. DILLIGAF 08-16-09, 09:50 PM Crashes always suck, glad you didn't get involved. Gary Wells 08-16-09, 10:30 PM Time to be thankful that it wasn't your time to go, and hopefully, it wasn't anybody else's time to go either. And time to be sympathetic towards those who had their lives turned upside down, even if for only a fraction of a second. thebigjimsho 08-16-09, 11:31 PM In Morehead. KY at a Sonic and tried googling the accident.

I've always preached you don't go crazy in accident avoidance. If the woman in the accident I saw today didn't swerve so hard, maybe the accident is only a rear end collision. THAT is hard to say and is hard to do since you only get that split second to react.
Well, I had just got into WV on I-64. I had seen a couple deer and knew to look out. But the idiot I am found myself in the fast lane since I had not long before passed a car. A deer ran across the highway from right to left and instead of just hitting the horn then the deer, I tried to squeeze to the left and hit the brakes fairly hard. I caught the edge and slid the V off the side of the road. I hit a mile marker sign and then rode the cable barrier for a couple hundred feet. I smashed up the front end and every panel on the driver's side is gouged up pretty well.
Sadly, this is not a joke. But I am OK. In the most ironic of ways, I wrecked my V.

Wow this type of news sucks but it could have turned out fatal so its great you are okay. The car is just a material possession and things like that come and go. Glad to hear you weren't hurt in the accident. Here in Virginia dear are a constant menace, even in the suburbs. Sometimes there is just no avoiding contact. Glad you avoided something more serious! I wish that I had not looked at the pictures though. That is gut-retching to say the least. That sucks to say the very least. At least you are ok though. It hurts just to look at the pics of your car. I would cry if it were my car. dirt_cheap_fleetwood 08-18-09, 01:57 AM Damn, I know how you feel man. The day my '95 DeVille got wrecked is still one of the worst days of my life. We are all glad you are alive and well. I still have chest pains from being the accident (the airbags never deployed so the seatbelt was all that kept me safe) and it a year ago as of the beginning of August. | |
