Head gasket problems went away around 2000. You are likely to experience oil pan gasket problems (oil leak) somewhere between 50k and 100k. $1800 done by dealer.
Other than that, you should be ok. Occasional power window--on any brand of car.

Consider a GMPP if you are still in warranty. Preferred vendors give about a 40% discount off of retail for GMPP. Keep in mind that a power window repair can cost $600.
The power window thing is a good reminder. I use a secure parking structure at work and the window goes fully down and up twice a day to badge myself in/out. Otherwise, I seldom put the window down.

My understanding is that the headbolts were redesigned in 2000 which drastically cut down on the HG failure.
The bolts were redesigned again in 2004, which virtually eliminated the HG problem...at least according to GM. :)
I now have a little over 66,000 miles on my 2006 DTS Performance Sedan.
So far...not even ONE mechanical problem. (knock on wood)
It has Zero oil leaks...zero oil consumption.
I have had a few electrical issues with various thing.
I did get the GMPP Major Guard before it went out from under the factory warranty partly because of this.
I have used the GMPP once already.
The Drivers A/C seat back quit cooling and the left front tire pressure sensor was acting up.
They replaced the entire blower assembly and duct work in the seat and replaced the tire pressure assembly.
No questions asked...no hassle.
