check out www.fastchip.com

adds up to 20bhp and removes the speed limiter, but requires the use of a 160 degree thermo and premium fuel. Since the 4.9L ECM is tunable, its almost worth it to buy the tuning software and do it yourself.

Tunercat seems to be the software of choice around here. Still, the software package and the EPROM burner and eraser you would need would come out to around $400. But the software allows you to edit nearly any parameter of the ECM, which would provide you with a tune more unique for your specific wants/conditions (max fuel econ, max power, etc), and it would pay for itself times over if you tuned more then one vehicle.

Still, the chip is only $160. So the path you take really depends on you and what you're looking for out of a tune.

well i have to remind everyone this car has 215000 miles on it, all i really want is decent gas milage when needed, and when and if i want to open it up to show off then speed is good, but really i would like it to sound mean as hell and have some get up and go

If you're just looking for off the line performance, change the gearing to 3.06:1 (20 buck part) and put a magnaflow exhaust on for the sound.
