: Official Cadillac Color Names and Paint Codes

I did some digging in the Forum archive because I had typed all these in at one time and it took quite some time and quite a few cocktails to get it all done! Straight from factory "exterior selections" brochures - - I found where I posted these after typing the information from each brochure on a thread I posted to on this forum 3 years ago. I am posting ONLY colors for the rear wheel drive deVille/Fleetwood/Brougham models unless otherwise noted. These color names are not the aftermarket or generic GM color names but the official Cadillac names for the colors that I typed out directly from the tri-fold Cadillac color chip charts which dealers gave to customers when these cars were new and I collected these along with all the sales literature for many, many years. Enjoy! :) Dave

So then would this be Diplomat Blue or Monarch Blue Firemist?

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/2503/2881/31256440070_medium.jpg

I've always thought it was Dark Sapphire, which is the color of the touch up paint.

Sven, I will look directly at the color chart when I get home tonight and try to help get this figured out so you will know. My bet is your car is the monarch blue firemist since the standard diplomat blue color is dark blue if I remember correctly. How can I post scanned pictures of these color charts on this forum?? :)

Don't forget that you can get the name from the SPID code as well...

How can I post scanned pictures of these color charts on this forum?

If you already have them scanned and saved to your computer as a *JPG* , you can upload them to your user profile. To do so, go to you profile and click "Customize Profile," which is in the right hand corner of the page (on the same bar as "Send Message." After you click that, it will bring you to a page where you can change you page colors. On the left side of the page are task bars ("Your Profile", "Networking," etc...) under "Networking" is "Pictures and Albums." Clicking that link will allow you to upload the pictures from your computer and into your profile. You are limited to a total of 25 pictures.

Once the pictures are uploaded, click on one to view it. At the bottom of viewing screen will be two web links. One of the web links (the second one) will have [IMG] before and after it. Copy and paste the [IMG] link into a post and hit reply and the picture will be posted.

Where do you find these paint codes? I wanna know that the original color of my 76 DeVille was.....

Bro-Ham
08-13-09, 09:50 PM
Dope, Where do you find the paint code on your own car? It's under the hood near the firewall on my 79 and I'd assume it's in the same place on your car.

Bro-Ham
08-14-09, 03:34 AM
Sven, I think your color is monarch blue firemist. Under my inside lighting it appeared the Monarch Blue is more of a medium blue compared to the diplomat blue which is a classic formal dark blue. I will look tomorrow in the sun to be sure. Can you check on your car to see if you have the color stamped on a metal plate by the firewall under your hood? That's the way it is on my old 79 which clearly shows color code 54. Hopefully yours shows which blue you have. Dave

Sven, P.S., my scanner is not working so I will get a new one so I can attempt to post these color charts since they may help solve the mystery for you and others who are wondering about what color car they have. Dave :)

Would "29T" on the RPO, after the U-code correlate to Diplomat Blue 29.

29t top color, dk sapphire met (91)

Bro-Ham
08-14-09, 08:32 PM
In the factory color chart brochure it shows "DIPLOMAT BLUE 29(T)" In the color chart is says "T" means "matching color full padded roof available." I don't know where dk sapphire comes up from but it ain't Cadillac. :)

You're probably right, Dave! That is what I got from a general list of GM codes. I believe that one is for a 91 Caprice...

sven914
08-14-09, 10:36 PM
I got the name form automotivetouchup.com (http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choosecolor/choosecolor.aspx?year=1989&make=Cadillac&model=All%20Models), which matched the WA code (8970) and the "29T" code on the RPO, and the can of Dupli-Color I got has the same color name; DK Sapphire Met. So I just assumed that was the real color name.

Bro-Ham
08-15-09, 02:29 AM
Sven and Jay, In the case of Sven's #29 color, Dark Sapphire is most likely the Chevrolet or generic GM name for the color. We can simply call it 29T or dark blue or whatever one may like. Cadillac sold these cars with fancy names for the paint colors that were different from the lower GM models with the exact same colors. If you want to refer to your car color as Cadillac would have sold it to you when the car was brand new then the color names listed at the top of this thread are from the original Cadillac factory literature and show the Cadillac specific color names with codes. For example, my 1979 Cadillac is color #54 which Cadillac called "Colonial Yellow" when new back in 1979. This sounds simply fabulous when compared to the exact same color #54 which was used by every other GM division and in the Buick and Chevrolet model lines in 1979 it was simply called "Light Yellow" while Oldsmobile in 1979 called #54 "Pastel Yellow." I'd rather call my Cadillac color by its Cadillac name rather than some Chevrolet or Oldsmobile name. It's a picky point for those who are particular about originality. Call your color what you like. :)

My Kung Fu is stronger than yours.

I clicked on the image to get a window, with a slightly larger (but still too small to see) thumbnail image. I right clicked on that image and clicked "view image," which opened another web page, with a large image. The other web page had a different web address, which I copied and pasted into the post (using the "insert image" icon on the message tool bar).

I have a question about the paint codes. I am having my caddy painted this spring/summer and know that it was the adriatic turquoise. What does it take to get the mix formula for the paint, Im not sure I need it but the shop I am going to use is a school and they mix their own paint. They might have all of those formulas in a book somewhere but I want to be prepared if they dont.

There is a sticky thread at the top of the RWD forum but no info on the 1970 models. Here is the link anyway for you: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1984-deville-fleetwood-1985/177276-official-cadillac-color-names-paint-codes.html

Try a paint touch up website like paintscratch.com or others like it for the original code. Good luck!

On my 89 I believe the color code is on the build sticker inside the trunk lid?

sven914
06-12-10, 02:45 PM
^Yes it is. At the bottom of the sticker there should be a WA-L#### code and a U#### code. Beside them is a two digit number followed by a "T," which corresponds to a number in the paint chip card shown above.

^I have the '75 paint chips you sent and they are the same colors. I think you sent me duplicates of a few of them (taken in better light) so something might have gotten mixed up and the '75 firemist mistaken as the '68. Just send me the right one and I'll post it.

Nope. Dont see it there unless it peeled off. The Jack instructions are there and they look original but no sign of a paint code

This says under spare tire cover or under the trunk lid (which I'm pretty sure is correct). Look for your Service Parts Identification sticker (SPID). It'll have the paint code on it, refer to the example sticker on that page.

Good luck! I hope you can find it.

jayoldschool

I believe 84 was the first year for the SPID sticker. Check your firewall on the driver's side for the trim tag.

dealer58
08-06-10, 11:31 AM
Found it. There is a trim tag located on top of the cowl all the way to the right on the passenger side, right behind the weatherstripping that the hood sits on when it's closed. It's black so that's why I couldn't see it at night.

Anyway in the middle of the tag it has 60L 60U which should mean Sand Grey lower and upper. They added a brown roadster top I beleive from when it was new. The interior is brown leather as well as all the carpeting in the interior and trunk area.

If you ask me the color looks more like a beige than a grey but I guess with all that brown trim is what is giving that effect.

In all the color is very bland (but the paint is good!) and could pass for either beige or grey. That's probably why they named it Sand Grey!

Thanks for the help gang. I appreciate it as usual.

Your car is a 1981 if it was made in October of 1980, the factory probably started making 1981 models around August of 1980.

To find the paint code, look at the plate by the base of your windshield wipers under the hood.

Is this the color of your car? This is the 1981 Fleetwood Brougham Coupe I owned up until 4 or 5 years ago, it is color #97 Doeskin Firemist.

Color 32 is shown for your car on the www.paintscratch.com website, it is not specifically referenced as "Monarch Blue" but the color indicates F/M for firemist and should be what you need. You will only find out if you try it.

On my 1979 deVille the official Cadillac color is "Colonial Yellow" but that site calls it Light Yellow - same color code and perfect match.

Good luck! :)

talismandave
04-28-14, 09:33 AM
:yeah:Same with my 87. Cadillac called it Chamois, but in matching code it is Yellow Beige.

All the divisions used different names and would change names every year, even if the color stayed the same. Their replacement paint charts would be a mile long document if they tried to list every name ever associated with the formula.

Here is another link that may help.
