Hello all! New to the forum.....I thought maybe I can get some assitance on this problem. I am working on a 1990 Seville with the digital cluster. A friend owns it. Hasn't had it but for a couple months, but had the fuel pump replaced 2 weeks after purchase. 2 weeks later the lighting for the cluster and a/c panel started going out, and back in. He said a fuse finally popped, and replaced it with another of the same rating. Now there is no illumination in the cluster or the a/c panel. I have checked the central power supply and plug, seems fine. Actually took it apart, it only has 3 points of esting on the circiut board. Has many wires, but where they solder onto the board, there is one main ground tying at least 6 points together, a 12v source, tying about 6 points, and a outlet 7v signal going out to about 6 points. the cluster and a/c panel both have a wire with the same voltage. Both have good grounds. I disassembled and cleaned the twighlight/headlight switch. All fuses are good. What could cause both units to go out when all fuses are good?

The CPS supplys illumination to both the speedo cluster and climate control head. Assuming this car does not have an aftermarket radio, I would still suspect the CPS. Try www.allantesource.com for a paragraph about faulty early CPS' . Cold solder joints, intermittant operation, etc. Have you confirmed that there is voltage to it with key in the run position? I've seen voltage in the start postion and when the key springs back, no voltage (misadjusted ignition switch on column). I had installed an aftermarket radio in my 89 and because I used the wrong power supply wire, I damaged the BCM which can affect the illumination as well.

I just logged on to that web site and could not find the updated part number for the CPS. Their number is 561 844 3938 in Florida. The Allante uses the same CPS as does the Eldo.
