i've gone through 3 alternators this year. the first one was on there when i got the car in 05 so that replacement seemed normal. the dealer replaced the 2nd one and it went bad in a month. thought i just got a bad apple. took it back and the 3rd one went bad 2 months later. i took my system out after the first one went bad and i don't have any aftermarket electronics. someone told me that i should get it rebuilt at one of the local shops with better bearings and brushes. is that my best bet? and does anyone know why this might be happening?
A loose plate in a battery can short out a new alternator and be hard to diagnose. In a 12 volt battery you have 6 plates, so one can short. Quality of bearings/ brushes has nothing to do with charging and I presume this is the failure you are having? The dealer should be using rebuilt DELCO brand.

i know there a big diff between the 2 brand cars caddy and lincoln
but back when i have my lincoln conti
i went threw 3 altinators in a year also
they where replaced at the locale dealer but they didnt use the dealer parts
i found out they went to get the parts cheaper from napa
wich really pissed me off
i heard that alot of dealers actualy do this and order there parts from napa i mean the service departments do that at some dealerships atleast the ford ones so not sure if GM might also at times .
i know Napa sucks the guy told me that soemtiems there remaned alt's just arent good for shit .
this could also be the case if you got a delco reman
not sure but just wanted to throw this out there
