The last few weeks when I go to start the car, sometimes it would slip, then it would start right up 1 second later.. last night the car wouldn't crank at all. The battery is fine, the connections are clean. Everything powers up in the car except the radio and the antenna wont go up. I get no error messages.. Another weird thing is its saying the fuel is empty.. Even though right before I put a half tank in it. I can't imagine that the starter would cause the fuel meter to be wrong as well as not power the antenna/radio when the headlights and everything else work.. I tried jumping it.. NOTHING! I read every post on here and haven't heard of anything quite like my problem. i guess I have to tow it to the dealer since it got stuck pretty close to there.. But in the meantime I'd like any help/suggestions you've had. I thought maybe the the key security is causing it, but I'm not really sure at this point.. Its an odd set of problems.. I just bought the car 6 months ago, and just paid it off one week ago.. What a bummer.. ANY help would be appreciated, I've searched the whole board and havent heard anything quite like my problem.. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried pulling off the negative battery cable from the battery for a minute or two? This may reset things for you and allow you to start the car. Usually, if there is a problem with PassKey, the "security" light on the dashboard will not go out. However, the DIC usually will tell you if something is remiss.

If you are able to, do a starter draw test. Occasionally, a sticky starter solenoid or a worn starter armature will draw enough power to cause the weirdness you're describing. Does the radio eventually come on after a few seconds, or after you've shut the ignition off then back on? Also, make sure your ground cable is firmly attached, and- this is rare- check to make sure the starter bolts are tight. For your fuel gauge problem, it could be related, it may not. Until you can get your car running reliably, there's no way to tell if it's a power draw problem or a sender/gauge problem.

i experienced similar problems. my fuel guages were also reset...as well as my codes and service engine lights (which came back a day later).

problem you ask?
starter locked up. i put the b*tch back in her place with a hammer :lildevil: and i hope to get another couple weeks out of her while i make arrangements with my mechanic.

so yeah, give the starter a couple decent taps with a hammer or solid wrench. jack up the left side of the car and shimmy under the front bumper. my starter was located pretty much underneath the battery beside the strut assembly. its right in the side of the tranny. your 4.9 should be about the same. good luck.
