I think there are staggered tires on 17" wheels that are different width. The 18" OEM staggered tires can be replaced with 255's all around.

Correct, 17" wheels are staggared. Need to run staggered setup on them. You can switch to same size all around but it will look retarded on the rims in the rear. If anything run 225's all the way around for winter and staggared setup for summer.

I think it is important to note that some 17" wheels are staggered widths and the tires therefore do need to be staggered, too. Other 17" are the same width all-around and this is not an issue.

I don't believe any of the 18" wheels require staggered tires. In all cases, refer to the tire information badge on the edge of the drivers door or sill.

I want to change to 255/45-18s on the front next time I need tires so I can rotate them. Will there be any noticeable difference in handling with the wider tires?

Better when hot & dry, worse when cold & wet.
