Hopefully someone here can give me some advise. My '99 ETC is Crimson Pearl. As far as I can tell it was always garaged before I bought it. I'm 98% certain I'm the second owner as I bought it from a lot. Anyway, I love my car and try to keep it clean and looking good. The paint was in like new condition when purchased. It still looks REALLY REALLY good now, but when I was waxing it about two weeks ago I noticed that it looks like the clear coat on the roof is getting thin. It's two spots roughly 5 inches in diameter, if that large. It's not really noticeable unless you really look at the roof on the passenger side. Is there anything that can be done to stop this or fix it short of having the roof repainted in time? I noticed that when I waxed it, it went away, but about two weeks later it's showing up again.

Can you post any good pics of the problem area? It would give a better idea of your options.

I'll see if I can get some of it.

It just sort of looks cloudy in the picture but you can see the two places I'm talking about.

Tough to tell from the pics, is the finish real smooth to the touch? of is there any roughness? Have you clayed the car? If not I would start there

Not near the ocean. Last time I waxed it I did the clay bar, cleaner wax, and detail spray.

Appears it could be just oxidation. I would have the panel professionally polished by an experienced detailer and then waxed again. If you catch it now all you should need is a med/fine polish but after that you're gonna need to compound, possibly wetsand, or even repaint if you let it go much longer. The paint is 11 years old so it could even be too thin to safely polish. Cleaner wax isn't going to remove any clearcoat, but that is exactly what you need to do. Our bodies exfoliate the top layer of dead skin every 11 days and your car needs to do the same periodically. Hope this helps.
