Hello,

Just found this forum, like it.

I just want to run this by some experts to see if this sounds right. I recently picked up a 2006 DTS with a month left under warranty (delivered late 2005), and have an issue with the parking sensors turning off.

I took it to the closest Cadillac dealer, and was told it looks like the front bumper has been repainted and they probably put too much paint on the sensor causing it to malfunction, and didn't want to cover it under warranty. I was hesitant because they didn't sound 100% confident that this would fix it, so after a little persuasion, they agreed to replace the sensor under warranty. Today I get a phone call saying the back sensors are messed up, because they have too much paint or painted wrong.

Anybody else experience this scenario or give their $.02?

Thanks!

I spent a couple of years in the trenches of new and used car sales 7-8 years ago. I recall that it was very routine to have a touch-up paint man come in to repaint bumpers (among other things), on used vehicles prior to offering them for sale. Made them look nice and new since this was where they got abused (dragging luggage in and out of the trunk, people lowering garage doors on rear bumpers of vehicles not pulled in far enough, etc)

Apparently that must have been the problem, because we removed the paint and they work now. (Removed the black paint and they were black underneath anyway so it worked out great! No repainting needed!).

cubldr, after the touch up guy did his thing did the sensors still work ok?

We had a very large used car business (retail AND wholesale) but it wasn't a Caddy franchise. Only vehicles we had with sensors back then were Buicks. I didn't work in the service dept so this is not something that I ever heard about as a problem.

I tell you this, I LOVE my front and rear sensors. Makes parking in my garage and parallel parking a breeze. I would be distressed if they stopped working.
