View Full Version : Nice Compliments On My DTS Last Week Superjim 07-28-09, 09:21 PM While on vacation last week...we were on a two lane mountain road (Hwy 72/7), between Ward and Estes Park.
I was following a car that was just really poking along.
I wasn't in a BIG hurry, but I did want to go a little faster than it was going. :)
Before I got a chance to pass it, a couple of motorcycles caught up with us. One was a big BMW touring bike, and the other was a Harley.
After following us for a couple of miles, the BMW passed me and got between me and the other car.
We went along ANOTHER couple of miles, while he waited for the Harley to pass me and catch up to him.
The Harley rider didn't seem to be in any hurry to pass me. I was watching in my mirrors and he wasn't hugging the center line like he wanted to pass me.
After a bit, there was a little clear space so I figured it was time for a WOT pass.
I floored it and it dropped all the way back to 1st gear, and as I cleared the BMW motorcycle, and was just about up to the door of the car, it was at 6800 RPM and it shifted to 2nd and CHIRPED the front tires. :)
Didn't think too much about it, but a couple of hours later, while we were in Rocky Mountain National Park, at a scenic pulloff, the two motorcycle riders pulled in also.
The BMW guy came over and asked me if I had just came up the old highway.
When I said "yes" he started talking about how well the DTS ran when I passed him and the car. :)
He was pretty impressed and said he had NO IDEA that a big Cadillac would RUN that well.
He said what really surprised him was the SOUND and the quick acceleration when I started around him.
He said a big Caddy just wasn't supposed to accelerate and "SCREAM" like that and spin the tires when it changed gears. :)
His daily driver is (I think) a BMW 338.
Anyway, I thought it was real nice of him to compliment the Cadillac.
Made me feel pretty food that someone else liked the way it runs and sounds. :) :)
Texas Jim Outstanding!
The last time I drove that road was in an early 90s Chevy Corsica rental car. I met a friend in Denver, did some hiking in RMNP, went to a conference at Keystone, and returned the rental car dripping fluids and with the check engine light on. Avis slapped a "Return to GM" sticker on it. I'm glad your car is a better ambassador for GM. Superjim 07-29-09, 12:18 AM Outstanding!

Yep..reckon it done good. :cool2:
Sorry to hear about your trouble with the Corsica.
Isn't Keystone over by that big lake on I-70?
It was almost kinda funny how the guy just went on and on about Cadillacs shouldn't run like that.
He "DID" say that the only Caddy he had ever ridden in was his Grandmothers Fleetwood...years ago. :)
I think he was also kinda surprised to see a gray headed Grandpa driving it. The expression on his face was priceless.
Texas Jim Good post Jim. I love to see people passionate and enjoying their cars. It is always nice to get a compliment too. SouthernCountry 07-29-09, 07:26 PM The car turns heads. I get tired of the people riding up beside me in their Chargers thinking their doing something. I don't even have the performance model (wish I did) but this bad boy keeps up with the best of em. My favorite compliment is when people ask me if it's the same as Obamas and I just tell them almost. I don't have all the personal protection and they laugh and say well it still looks presidential...:cool2: Superjim 07-29-09, 07:36 PM Thanks Y'all for the comments.
I have always loved good cars. :cloud9:
I really do enjoy driving it...sometimes SPIRITEDLY...it will surprise a lot of people. :cloud9: :cloud9:
Already have 66,000 on it and have only had it 2.5 years.
Had 40,000 on my first one.
It wasn't even a year old yet.
Texas Jim Southern 07-30-09, 12:21 PM When I lived in Texas (20 years 1980-2000) I remember the mileage piling up.............. Like they say, everything is bigger in Texas. Often I would drive from Roanoke to Oklahoma for a catfish dinner................Or we would go into Ft Worth or Dallas...... Averaged about 25/30K per year. I think that is about double the national average. The other problem was bugs and stones on the front end....... High speed has it's price.............;) Used to trade cars every 2 or 3 years. caddyo6 07-31-09, 03:48 PM Glad to see that people still admire our wonderful cars. I'm in Tucson with an all black '06 Performance edition. I got her with 17,000 back in '07...she has 81,133 on her now and I still get people trying to see who is driving this incredible car. More so when I'm pushing her had...that Northstar sound is nice :cloud9:

Your car has to be the only Lux Performace Sedan in the country with such modifications and the only one who can outrun an import without :nox: .

Whoever gets your car after you is going to be one lucky S.O.B. Superjim 08-02-09, 06:34 PM Glad to see that people still admire our wonderful cars. Like you...I do love the sound of the NorthStar.
And like has already been said...they will surprise some people with how well they run.
I just want it to "Be All It Can Be"
Texas Jim Makes you feel good, doesn't it?
I took my teenage boy and a friend of his (whose dad drives a BMW) to the lake last week. I kicked it into passing gear to pass someone poking along on a long straightway across the lake bridge and really made that Northstar sing. The boys had been yammering away to each other about something... but they went stone silent when I kicked it and didn't say anything again for a few minutes. I was thinking that they were thinking that I was mad or something. To break the ice I just said sort of kidding,"Why the silence? Are you two just impressed with the awesomeness of my Cadillac?" They both replied at the same time, "YES!" I think they meant it. Made me feel good. Superjim 08-02-09, 09:34 PM Sweet...

Thanks for the compliment.
It is appreciated.
I have done a fair amount to it. :stirpot:
It also sits a good bit lower than most of them.
My service manager worked with a Tech ll for about 3 hours to adjust the ride height to be the way I wanted it.
Then I had the engine and transmission professionally tuned.
It still wasn't "EXACTLY" the way I wanted it, so I bought the EFI Live software to tune it and tweak it myself.
I have adjusted the Power Enrichment parameters, transmission shift points, max allowable timing, transmission shift FIRMNESS, removed the speed limiter, raised max RPM to 6,800 and made it so the trans will DOWNSHIFT at higher speeds than stock, and much much more.
It is about where I want it now. :worship: :worship:
On the trip last week, mileage varied from 21.5 to 25.8...even driving it the way "I" do.
I am 64, but have not quite reached the "PUTTERING AROUND" stage yet.
From Colorado Springs to Amarillo Texas...avg speed was just a hair over 84 and that was with SEVERAL pit stops for Darling wife. :cool2:

Yes it does make you feel good. :yup: :yup:
Looks like you made a believer out of those two boys. :lildevil:

SICKIE ICKIE ICKIE , everything sounds AMAZING, especially the EFI live thing which i know nothing about... and frankly affraid to even think about... I love mine the way it is...for now at least. pleanty of everything all around.
Don't you ever reach that oblique stage of feeling like youre moping around. KEEP THE SWAGGER UP..! I don't plan to ever reach the moping around stage. :)
The EFI LIVE lets you go into the engine computer and transmission computer and tell it how you want it to operate.
There are at least a couple of hundred things you can change and modify.
You can also screw it up "BIG TIME" if you are not careful. :tisk: :tisk:
If you want to look at the potential, here is the web site.

I have the Flash Scan V2.
As you said earlier...I probably have the only TUNED DTS around. :) :)
At least I have never heard of another one.
The tuner guy that tuned mine the first time, has been tuning vehicles for over 10 years.
He travels all over the country to prearranged meets and tunes 25 or 30 vehicles over the course of three days. Usually Chevy and GMC pickups.
He tunes over 100 vehicles a month.
Mine was the first DTS he had ever done, and he had never heard of another new style (2006 and newer) DTS being tuned. :) :)
Anyway...I love my DTS.

You need to buy his 338. (Sounds like a BMW with a 3800 engine.) lol Superjim 08-05-09, 12:36 AM You need to buy his 338. (Sounds like a BMW with a 3800 engine.) lol
Why would I want a little bitty 3 series BMW, when I have a nice big comfortable Cadillac?
I don't understand what you mean.
