lou's 99 STS

I was fortunate enough to get a great deal on a mint, 91 STS last summer. With $2300 cash + $800 for brake lines I was on the road and the car only had 57,000 original miles.
I love this car but I am sure some of you know how hard it is to part with the cash when it comes to repairs so this is about making me feel better.
My mechanic, whom I trust, has just given me this $1600 list of repairs to be done this week.
(4) H rates touring tires (General Altimax HP?)
Monroe Sensa trac for both front struts
A new power steering rack & pinion
full alignment
I was ready for all of it but the power steering. The tires had dead spots from sitting (little old lady had it prior to me) and they were wearing from bad alignment. The struts had started to leak and were getting soft.
I have accepted that I am losing my CCR struts and I am looking forward to the, almost, new ride and control feel I will have but tell me that it's worth it. My wife is understanding and likes the car but lack our enthusiasm and finds humor in the fact that my eyes glaze over when someone new ask about my car.
