I'm interested in a 500 CI motor with THM 350 Tranny.
I has been remove from the truck.

The seller said that there is a little oil that will blow out the valve cover...like a piston ring is blowing by..jsut looks like a puff of smoke, not oil pouring out...it is not coming out the tail pipe....just the valve cover, like i said, engine probably needs new piston rings...other than that motor runs fine, the tranny shifts smooth and tight no leaks on either one

Is it surely because of the ring?
Could it possibly a clog PVC Valve hose or something else?

I'm interested on it cause it have some performance parts in it.
But quite worry about the problem above.

Thanks

First...these motors have too much torque for a 350 transmission... sooner or later its gona break... should use a th400...
What kind of performance parts does it have? I have seen alot of these motors with cam and heavier springs loose a lobe or 3 on the cam...that can be from using oil without additives for flat tappet cams... thats any oil for over the road cars... you need a racing oil or a additive for flat tappets now.
Do a compression check and look out for very high readings... could mean bad cam....
What is he asking for the motor? what year is the motor? are the pistons stock? before I bought anything I want to know whats in there...

The seller doesn't know much about it. It is sitting in this garage and he just want to get rid of it. The performance parts I saw was just a Edelbrock intake, and Shaft rocker. I guest There should be more in side.
He's asking for $500

The price is cheap enough. I'll bet the Edelbrock would be $200. That would be a good combo for a Cutlass or Regal.

It would be even cooler if it already had the rear sump setup to fit in a GM midsize car.

With the intake and rocker system its worth the $500...I woul buy it , take it home and see what I got inside.. Check to see thats its not a early, 68-69, block.. the casting number of 1970 and on ends in 5200.. its at the back of the block...Its only really worth it if your going to use it....But I'm sure for the intake, rocker and crankshaft you could get your $500 back...
