can any one let me know if their is a bushings under the steering column somewhere that supports or absorb road shock. when i get in my 91 seville in the 115 degree heat of arizona and burn my self on the seat belt(NO JOKE-2nd degree) the wheel has about 1/2 inch of play up and down
meaning you can wobble it 1/2 inch up and down
on the highway it shakes pretty bad. i know it is not the rotors or suspension. suspension if great. just steering wheel that is loose. i can feel bumps that i go over on the steering wheel only. not the suspension of the car only the steering wheel. any suggestions? :hmm:

Sounds like the column. The tilting mechanism may have play in it due to wear and tear.

There are 3 bolts inside the tilt columns that tend to work loose and the whole column will rock around in your hands. It's kind of involved to fix and takes a couple of unique tools that a lot of DIY mechanics tend not to have. You might want to take this one to a garage, and don't be surprised if it's 2-3 hours labor.
