I have a new to me 97 deville concours. Front shocks are needing to be replaced. But when I drive it and after it has warmed up a bit, the front wheels have drag or hesitation ever so slightly on deceleration from low speed like 25 to 35 mph. Its like a little resistance to free rolling. When I turn, it can be (not always) a little more pronounced. I think I hear a compressor running too so wondering if a partial component is leaky struts. But the drag on freewheeling is still there. Wheel bearings? Frozen calipers? The car was stored in the winter outside for about a year or longer, so rusting of components on the wheel is not out of the question. No codes show at all and the overall condition of the car is terrific.
What do you think?

Do you feel any kind of pulsating in the brake or get any messages on the dash when this happens? I'm wondering if the traction control is activating?

Sometimes a transmission fluid change - only drain and refill (no machine flushing) - can help reduce internal drag in the transmission. Could also be that you have a caliper that is binding or it could be a wheel bearing. In the case of the brakes or wheel bearing, you may hear noises or feel the steering wheel being pulled to either the left or right.

I feel no pulling to the side. The abs brakes just try to engage. Resistance. I had the wheels and brakes inspected and they all work OK. That is why I wonder if it is the EBCM. Also when it happens, I turn traction off and the car runs fine.

Go through the tedious drill of cleaning the EBCM connector pins - engine cradle, front left wheelwell, inside the liner. Rub a tad of dielectric ignition grease on the connector seal ring.

Just for grins, get the car up to 55 - 60 on a quiet road and do a real foot-to the-floor panic stop. ABS engage and car stop in a straight line? Now, does it still "drag" from 35 down ??

(If ABS engages, you will know it and the noise will scare the devil out of you............)

I will do that exactley. Are you suspecting what is hung up? Also, I see this box inside the fender just under the cross brace for the suspension towers. I'll see if I can add a photo here. It has what looks like a speedo cable going into it and a flat connector about 2 inches in width by about 3/8". Is this the plug to clean and is this in fact, the EBCM? I think it is but just to be sure. Ther is also a rectangular connector under the ebcm that is very hard to get to without removing it. (I might just have to). Is this a connector to clean also?
Thanks

Yeah, I never heard ABS til about a week ago when I had to slam on my brakes. Boy that noise frightened me...so much so I made a post on here asking what the noise was! :D
