just bought my first cadillac and having what i think is a battery issue. was working within the car with the door open (interior lights) for a couple of hours yesterday. tried to start but battery dead. jump caddy with my other car with no problem. today i again worked within the caddy but tried to kept the door closed as often as possible. tried to start but battery dead. tried to jump but nothing. only heard a fast clicking noise with ignition on. also, although engine wouldn't start, interior lights still worked. i noticed the positve battery cable was a bit frayed and rubber covering was peeled off. could this be a cause...any suggestions could help..thanks

That does sound like a bad connection somewhere, give it a good looking over.

i am going to go with bad connection from the battery to the starter. I would say replace the postive cable. its an easy enough job. I did in on my 69 coupe deville took me a 1/2 hour.

The clicking is the starter motor not getting enough current. but the rest of the electricals work because they don't draw as much current

thanks for the responses. had the battery tested and it showed only 9volts, obviously not enough to crank that big 500c.i block..recharged the battery, replaced positive battery cable, and she cranked right up. however, now when i leave either door open with or without the key in the ignition, a clicking noise is heard coming from the middle portion of the power seats...the int. lights also seem to flicker when this is occuring. when i shut the door(s), the clicking stops..sounds like a short..got any ideas? oh yeah, also when i push the int. light off switch in the door jam the clicking continues.

Clicking from the seat? I was told when I purchased my 69 that the seat unlock themselves when there is power and the doors are open so you don't need to use the lever to fold the front seats forward and there is an audible click when the seats enter that state, but you should only be hearing it once. I would go over the connections again.
