: Scrape By The Lake

On Sunday I went to this show "Canada's Premier Lowrider Show". This was their 10th show and to be honest it's kind of devolved into an import car fest since those guys got into air suspension. Still some nice Cadillacs there though.

I eventually left when all the BASS and itty-bitty wheels got too much for me.

As far as I'm concerned, the nicest car there.

Think this is a Kindalike.

The event was held at a large Motel.

It attracts cars from over the border.

Lowriders are kinda cool, but WTF is with the stupid little wheels? IMO they are even worse than giant rims, they are just plain retarded.

I've never understood lowriders. I can see the dropped suspension, the flashy rims, and cool paint jobs, but why make them dance? I also have trouble understanding why people put their Cadillacs on 24", three spoked, chrome plated rimes with low profile tires.

Do those stupid "5th" wheels on the back bumpers actually house a spare? When I say spare tire, I mean a full size, matching rim/tire that you can mount in case of a flat, and put your flat tire back there.

Hah, I've seen the LOWRIDER car twice in the past 2 months. He's about 50k from where I live. I bought some trim from the guy for my 91 and then saw it parked in front of my friend's place last week. It's got the astroroof and the built-in garage door opener unit. I'm not a fan of that triple black-look.

I agree with the small wheels comments....they look stupid.

I like the window shades on the old brown one, licence plant 'sixer.' I'd like to pick up a set of those somewhere. Anyone know how they attach?

Usually they do not, but sometimes people fit them in there. IMO they look absolutely horrible on anything made after '93. The continental kits look rather good on the C-body DeVilles because the lights stuck out further than the bumper so the extra tire was almost flat with the rest of the back end. My favorite car to see them on is the early 80's Eldorados. There is one near me that I see rarely but it is beautiful and the continental kit adds a lot of class to that car.

I just bought some for my Brougham from this site, $51 shipped. They are not the best quality (they are stainless steel, not chrome) but I spent about 10 minutes on each one polishing and now they look as good as chrome. Installation at first will scare you because you have to pull the weather stripping out of the window track. Once you figure out how to do it though its a piece of cake. It took me about 20 minutes to install all four. The pictures are from before I polished them and they were still covered in fingerprints from the installation.

^ Well we know that 107k is wrong and the engine probably has to run at 3500 rpm on the highway. I'll pass.

What a douche. "Doan be offerin' me no hoopties. I wants me a donk."

WTF is a donk? Did he get a 'donk' off the head that made him think those 13" rims look good?

smaller wheels= more suspension travel,.... you can get lower to the ground without rubbing. I think they look goodd with the right tires.Im into lowriders myself, and didnt think there were too many others on the forum. When i get to all the custom work i think im gonna go wit 14's instead of 13's tho.Throw on the mustard and mayo and call it a day.

WTF is a donk?

Don't ask me how I know, and no, I DO NOT approve. But it's fitting the largest possible wheel under a car, usually by means of effectively lifting the car, making it look like a 4x4 with stupid azz wheels.

Cover your eyes and peek through your fingers at this..

I actually read the definition on wikipedia because I just had to know. It's an abbreviation for badonkadonk (a large female prosterior). They lift the front of the car slightly more than the rear and on a '70's Impala or similar car creates the rounded rear that I guess is in the shape of a nice ass. I love seeing them personally. They are absolutely hilarious. I just hate when someone ruins a rare model with that, hydraulics or a crazy paint job.

Martin.

That's my coupe - nice pic!

To answer some questions:
- no the stupid 5th wheel does not house a spare tire
- small wheels is a style thing, plus more clearance like someone said. some people like Cragars that stick out, I like Daytons that tuck
- with 170/70/14's I can cruise the 4100 at 60 and get 20mpg all day
- and the stupid little wheels are 1" less than factory
- much like early 60's impalas, if they weren't popular in the lowrider world, most of these caddy's would've been crushed long ago

As much as I hate seeing this done to otherwise beautiful cars, this one fact keeps me from flipping out when I see them. Why the "lowrider" world can't just fix up nice cars to factory specs and enjoy them that way is not something I try to understand anymore. Others probably wonder the same thing about the true-duals on my otherwise-stock 472.

IMO that '84 coupe is pretty classy. I'm not big on the hopping thing or the 5th wheel, but its a clean and not overdone job (alot of subtle stuff, not bling bling everything). the pinstripe work looks pretty cool and the combo of chrome/ gold looks sharp.

the thing people fail to realize - from lowrider to hot rod to even classic resto's - a ton of work and time goes into some of these cars. This caddy's been frame off, fully wrapped and molded frame, control arms, etc. Every detail remains cadillac - from the rebuilt 4.1 to the full 90-92 upgrade (digital dash, interior, front clip, rear bumper and custom side moldings). not every lowrider is coffin interior'd eyesore junk.
