My recently acquired '02 DeVille is in need of front pads and rotors. This is a base model and "spirited" driving never enters the picture. What pads and rotors should I be looking at and where should I be shopping.

The stock pads and rotors are perfectly adequate for all but the most dedicated road racer. If you feel qualified to do your own brake work look at www.rockauto.com for OEM parts. If not, a dealer can do the job on all 4 wheels for the cost of the RockAuto parts + 250% for markup and labor. Also factor in the possibility of some new caliper and pad hardware, another $75. Whatever you do, buy American - Raybestos, Moog, ACDelco, Monroe, equivalent. Be very careful of eBay "specials" and the like.

Get into specialized aftermarket slotted rotors and HD pads for 4 wheels and the entry (for good equipment, NOT Chinese), is around $450, DIY.

In brake parts you get what you pay for. If the deal is too good to be true, run.

Yes, I DID post a similar thread but got no replies. I spelled my thoughts out a little more clearly here and got just the reply from just the person that I was hoping for. Kinda like fishing.... ;)
As far as buying American goes, have no fear. I'm a 3rd generation American auto worker and this DeVille is the first time in my life that I haven't "bought what I build", (AMC/Jeep/Chrysler). I'm not feeling guilty though, I've always had a "thing" for a Cadillac.

By the way, when you said "HD pads", were you referring to ceramic? Thnx for your response...love reading your posts.

Kevlar Ceramic pads are the way to go. Ebay sells them as well as other dealers on the web.
