Hi to all,
I have a 1980 Eldorado with 68,000 miles on it. For the past several years the digital display that controls the climate control along with the mpg display has worked intermittently and has progressively gotten worse to a point where it does not fuction at all now. I have double checked the wiring and the ribbon cables for integrity, all appear good. I cannot find much about this problem, could it be in the ECM? Any ideas where to start?:banghead:
Thanks in advance, Steve

What I discovered in my 83 Eldorado is, because of the location of the center ashtray, smoke from the cars previous owner’s cigar’s channeled up and around the radio, climate control and the MPG modules. This resulted in the electrical connections and the solid-state circuit boards getting coated with tar residue. A can of electronics cleaner and a can of compressed air, purchased from radio shack did the trick.

If not dirty, I would suspect the climate control display head. The microproccor is in it.

Found it! It was a broken foil path on the circuit board near the power transistor, in the control head! Thanks for the direction to look!
