i have a great running 4.1 crate motor in a fwd 1985 coupe deville , but someday when it does die i would like to swap a 4.5 in, i have access to a 4.5 for 200 bones, i was thinking of picking one up, having it rebuilt and keeping it as a spare, what kind of problems am i going to run into in this swap

I believe this was talked about before... check the archives. I think the problems lies in how they bolt up to the tranny. Sure you could make your own adapter...I dont think its that hard, but may be a lot of work if you dont have the right machining tools... I believe the 368 was the same and an easier alternative. Maybe the olds diesel would also work...dunno, might be the best alternative since you could run biodiesel in it (google biodiesel)... If your going to go the crazy way Id look into a complete 500 drivetrain w/ custom mounts.... 200 for a 4.5? I think you could get the whole car for that much, checkout ebay might have to go to NY, cali, FL or TX...
