Hello, my name is Andreas from Potsdam, Germany.

First, sorry for my bad english.

Last year i bought a 1990er Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 4.5 litre. I love this car. Actually i love all american cars : )

But i have some trouble with the automatic transmission. I have photographed a part from my car, properly meaning an utter stranger to me. This part was installed under the front bumper, next by the radiator. i try to attach a picture on my posting. Hope it works. Can anybody told me, what function this part takes over? It may be true that this part ALSO necessary for any electrical funktions for the automatic transmission?

Somebody said, this part is a regulator for the alternator? Last winter i exchanged the alternator. The new version of the alternator shall the regulator implemented. The old alternator have the regulator external. Couldt it be? Is this part a regulator for the alternator? I am confused.

On the part it reads here that:
GM, DELCO, REMY
CAUTION HIGH VOLTAGE, DO NOT OPERATE HEATED WINDSHIELD WITH COVER REMOVED.

I thank you so much for your help!!!

Best wishes from Germany,

Andreas

Just a guess, but maybe its the heater for windshield washer fluid...?

Hello derone,

thank you for your suggestion! I never would have guessed.
But it might well be. My Brother said yesterday to me, this part was around the washer fluid case.

Any additional suggestions?

Thanks at all and greets from Germany.

Andreas

This part has no effect on the transmission. Your Trans is not even electronic on a 1990. This is simply the module for the heated windshield option. I have a 1990 Fleetwood parts car with the same box. Non-heated windshield cars do not have it. Simply leave it out of the car with the connectors taped up to prevent further corrosion or shorting. If you insist on replacing this, shop places like ebay but unless the car is from a southern or western part of the US it may be in the same rotted out condition. The odds of finding a working one, regardless of case condition is even more rare. Nice looking car you have!
