How much does it cost to have new head gaskets installed on the 4.9 ltr???

Also, if you put the pellets in the radiator, will this stop or seal any possiblve leaks???

Also, could any serious damage be done if the coolant gets into the engine, if one of these just goes bad???

Any symptons of a bad head gasket, besides the milky oil?

symptoms- i've heard you could be running warm... in addition to milky oil, watch your resorvoir.

head gaskets require top end taken apart. (i can now do it in a little over 3hrs :) ) i would guess that a shop can do it quicket however! takes a little longer to put stuff back. 6hrs total probably, @ whatever shop rate is...

bbob informed me that there was testing done with 50/50 oil/coolant in these motors and there was little to no visible damage after quite a number of hours of hard running. I ran mine with coolant in the oil for approx 80 miles and I've had no probs.

keep a close eye on the temp gauge!

Well, not including the labor, how much would it cost just to buy the head gasket, and anything that you need to install it with, such as screws, bolts, etc...

Thanks.

The one I just looked at is $20.00 bucks, but I dont know what they are called, they have a few gaskets on there.

yup, they're cheap...very cheap compared to the labor involved. you can reuse the head bolts. you'll need to get a torque wrench (i have the 1 click type, and it works okay, about $30) and a bunch of metric sockets (13-16mm mostly)

Also, the BEST investment to make before THINKING about doing this, is the Cadillac service manual. they are always on ebay. I picked mine up for $38 shipped.
