Has anyone here installed a ipod kit on their STS-V so you can control the ipod within the touch screen. Why does my Ex 07 civic have a usb port for her nav equipped car but the STS-V does not?

The newer head units with a USB came in with the design on the new 08 CTS. We're functioning with a head unit that was in service in 05/06. Any newly designed Cadillac after the 08 year model has it available. Sometimes you miss out on tech by missing one model year.

I think the one to get is the USASpec PA-11 Vette. I saw a few threads about that and the STS. Interfaces with the factory XM radio interface. So, you tune to the XM channel and then control the playlist, title and track, etc from the radio. It comes with an updated cable for the iPod Touch and iPhone 3G, 3S charging. The only shortcoming is that you cannot route sound through the speakers for inbound phone calls. So, for that, I picked up a bluetooth interface to RCA to plug into the iPod interface adapter. Now, inbound calls are routed over the car radio. It supports full control (only from radio) and hybrid (some from radio and from iPhone - what I use) which is selectable at any time from the radio. Pretty slick.

Here is a link to that product (a vendor).

Now, optionally, just pick up an A2DP bluetooth device only and route that to the radio assuming you have a stereo input anywhere. The downside on that approach is that the only control is on the iPhone directly. Not my preference.

And, as a clean up item, you could consider the Kuda USA dock kits that match your interior.

All food for thought.

For cradles, consider the ProClipUSA items.

Problem I am finding is most of the chargers and cradles out right now work with the 3Gs but wont charge a 3Gs. Older ipods ran on 12volts but new units work on 5 volts to be USB friendly.

Yes, the updated cable is 5V and works with all iPods including the iTouch and 3G/3GS. I have tested all of those. If you use the old 12V cable, you get squeeling, static and all sorts of other odd activity. The cradles with pass-through connectors are not an issue, the pinning is on the cable side. If you have the right cable, it will work properly. I used an old passthrough DICE dock and have no issues with any of the new or old iPods (I have an a gen 2 nano, gen 3 nano, iPod video gen 2, iTouch gen 2, and iPhone 3G as well as testing my friends iPhone 3GS). in fact, there are some adapters that convert an old cable to support 5V. Best bet is to get the right cable, however.

Here is a pic with the ProClip cradle, for those interested (in a CTS-V)

Thanks for sharing the pics. I am considering getting the USA Spec unit for my CTS-V. I love the KUDA mount, but I am a bit confused about how clips work with it. I noticed that KUDA sells some of their own clips, but I was wondering if a ProClip could easily be used. Do you like the KUDA mount, as opposed to the "free-standing" Pro-Clip you show in your first picture?

I saw a user in an Acura forum that had a ProClip with a KUDA mount in his TSX, so it seems like it would work.

Thanks in advance...
