I had the head gaskets replace on my 91 Deville (73000 mi.) just a week ago because of a leak. When they pulled the heads they found 2 studs rusted off, at the center of the head. The heads were tested and OK, had the valve seals replaced and valves lapped in and cleaned up. The cooling system was power flushed and new coolant with the Cadillac pellets were installed. The car runs like a new one, gas mileage is 27.5 mpg on a trip at 70mph. They said the reason the studs were rusted was because the previous owner DID NOT replace the coolant every 2 years or 24000 mi. So everyone please make sure you do this. It will save a lot of money.

How much did it cost total?

The total cost was 1600.00, not too bad. A Cadillac dealer quoted me about 2300+, I am very happy with the service I got. I also got a 12 month 12000 mile warantee with it.

yeah, im do for a coolant change myself. i have always followed the coolant intsructions under ther hood for the coolant additive. it is a good idea to do that.
