Is there a way to change the power outlets, so that they do not supply power when the ignition is off?

I would just put an in line switch in and shut off whatever it was powering after turning off the car.

Just a thought.

I have the issue with my radar detector...my plan is to tap into the hot line in the mirror, and eliminate the coiled cord...here is the mount I am thinking about using for the detector:

I'm interested in this too. I mounted a 12V outlet in the trunk to power my 3G to WiFi access point but it's a pain to go to the trunk to turn it on and off. Is there a way to hook power off something on the ignition switch in the trunk?

All GM vehicles ever since I can remember have been this way.

It works well if you have an iPod or iPhone plugged in as it will always charge any device pugged in.

For you guys that want to install the radar detector to the rearview mirror, here's a great link for the CTS(-V):
http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-forum-2008-beyond/137007-easy-radar-detector-installation.html

I installed mine cutting the original cord and soldering a part of a paperclip to each of the wires. The paperclip slides into the back of the harness in one of the corners around the connectors. A regular paperclip stays put and make a good connection. You use some electric tape to protect it all.

This picture shows which plugs to use. Tricky part is to remove the plastic cover over the harness. The cover stays connected to the harness on one side. The whole procedure is relatively easy. And now your detector will turn off when you shut of the car.

I connected my radar detector to the mirror connector power as shown, but I don't understand jwa999's comment about the cover staying connected to the harness. Mine didn't and I don't think it is supposed to stay connected to the harness. If it does, it might be glued on or something else is wrong.

Doesn't this default configuration run the risk of running down the battery if you have something "always" plugged in?

Except for the GTO. About the only thing I miss on my 05. :)

With the Valentine One just the stand alone consealed display and un/plug. Nice when your at the gas station or drive thru and you need a quick disconnect.
