i have just bought a seville sts 1990; the "service engine soon" light stays on permanently but i have no idea of what it means, i am french, bought this car from a british guy who serviced the car regularly; can it be dangerous on the long run to continue driving with this signal and what can i do to discover what goes wrong with the computer?

The computer will have some codes stored, you need to find out what these are. To do this, hold the "Off" and "Warmer" at the same time on the climate control centre for a few seconds, and then it will start displaying the codes, so be ready with a pen to write them down.

The first codes should start with "E" (basically engine/mechanical ones). Then it will show "B" codes (basically body codes, lights etc), then SIR (air bag codes).

The service engine soon lights are for "E" codes, once you have written down what they are, you can reset them and see if they come back.

If you go to this web page, it will tell you all you need to know about the codes etc:-

If you have any problems, I have the GM workshop manuals, so just ask.

Good luck and enjoy your Seville
