from a non-car forum:

You guys have forgotten to mention the car that casued Cadillac to create the CTS, the Lincoln LS.

Car and Driver has continued to rate the LS over the CTS time and again for handling, refinement, quality and styling.

The LS V8 Sport is an amazing vehicle. While I have not driven the CTS, I have driven the LS and I am All smiles.

One thing that jumped out at me was that the LS handles better. What?! :drinker Also, the CTS comes in 10k cheaper.

Overall Id say the LS is a better car....but there are alot of things goin for the CTS exspessially with the new 3.6.....if they would just do something with the interior.

I haven’t driven the LS but, probably like most of you reading this, I’m a ‘car guy’.
The LS just doesn’t turn heads.
I’m sorry if I offend any one but it just looks boring.
When a CTS goes by, it catches my attention!
PS I had 2 Continentals. (Still own one).
I’ll take the CTS for looks.

"Car and Driver has continued to rate the LS over the CTS time and again for handling, refinement, quality and styling."

lol

Ask him where these continuous comparisons are. C&D has only ever done one direct comparo between the two cars. And the CTS unceremoniously kicked it's arse (and in it's first rocky year no less).
The CTS placed 4th out of 8 cars and the LS came in dead last.

But that's to be expected because it did the same thing in Road & Track's(C&D's sister publication) review too. The CTS finished two places above it there.

Of course he may be refering to this glowing review where it placed sixth out of seven cars (and only because it's sibling car, the Jag S-Type was even worse):
http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=15&article_id=4225&page_number=3

Or perhaps this lack luster review:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=19&article_id=1819&page_number=1

This quote pretty much sums up Car&Driver's opinion of the Lincoln LS:
"When compared with its sister, the Jaguar S-type, the Lincoln LS becomes the wallflower in the family, devoid of any of the come-hither sexiness needed in this vehicle class. That is, assuming the Lincoln execs intended it to be considered a sports sedan in the first place."

Lincoln began with a good car. It was great years ago when it came out (even was car of the year). Unfortunately, they haven't done anything with it since and the world has passed it by.

My Lincoln Vs. Cadillac threads were meant as a joke. Lincoln no longer competes in Cadillac's league. Hopefully they wake up and stop the bleeding before Buick overtakes them too. ;)

The LS is a great car, and in V8 form its quick. But it doesnt target the same buyers that the CTS does. I feel they arent competitors, especially with the price difference.

The last time I was over at the Lincoln dealer they had this black on black Lincoln LS there but it looked different for some reason. There's some sorta package they have for it and its called a SEI package or something like that and it has bigger wheels, bodycladding on it, and some interior touches also. And all I can say is that was one hot ass car. That LS would turn heads in ways a CTS or even a CTS-V could only dream of. But yeah Caddy needs to dom something with the CTS interior. I think my 1990 Deville has a better looking interior.

Give me a break with the statement the LS would turn heads in ways the CTS and CTS-V would only dream of. You are dreaming! Both the CTS and CTS-V are mean looking cars, especially when side by side to a Lincoln LS which looks and feels boring! My brother has a Lincoln LS and when he rode my 96 STS he immediately mentioned how much better it looked compared to his BORING LS and my 96 STS will blow the doors off his Boring LS.

The LS has great proportions in my opinion....the CTS looks oddly out of proportion to me.....I prefer longer looking cars and the CTS cant accomplish that....at least the STS can...from pictures so far.

looks are subjective....that being said, I think the LS is sharp, but the design is tired. The CTS on the other hand has beautiful, crisp edges that turn heads, and it's a design that has grown on me from day one.

I must say I am a bit surprised about the favorable comparison.

First, I have test driven both vehicles. I find the CTS has vastly superior handling, power, ergonmics, and styling. The are in order of importance to me.

The LS cockpit is cramped and the seats are not as good as the CTS. THere is more real seat room in the CTS.

From a price perspective - the discounts and incentives offered on the LS are significant making them comparable. From a value proposition perspective - in my opinion - the CTS if vastly superior.

I test drove an LS Ultimate V8 before buying the CTS. No comparison! The LS looks nice, but not eye catching, on the outside. On the inside, the center stack looked plain to me, the seats looked like carryovers from an older model Lincoln although there were comfortable.

Everything about the interior shouted "Designed by old guys!" I'm not young anymore (47), but I wasn't ready for the LS in it's current form. I feel much more at home in the CTS and even like the interior styling much, much more. And I could've had the top of the line LS for $34K after my partner discount along with rebates and financing cash back!!

Driving the LS wasn't as enjoyable either. Overall, I just couldn't consider the LS after driving the Caddy!

I hear that... It's going to be a really sad day when Lincoln owners look at Buicks and say, "Wow". That day is probably not very far off...

Highly doubt it.......Lincoln is staying at its market that its always been at.....its Cadillac that is moving to foreign teritorry. Buick....well....lets just leave it at that..American Lexus.....HAHAHAAA..BobLutz is gonna rune GM.

As far as either car being more of a head turner, I tend to twist my neck and stare at both of them. But I suppose both cars turn different heads.

The Lincoln LS was supposed to attract 5-series and E-class customers. The CTS goes after the same, but younger.

And regarding Buick, theyre moving ahead quickly. The Ranier is powerful and clean looking. Have you seen the Velite and Centieme? Stunning. And the Lacrosse is a step closer to the Lexus reality.

Think about it... one of Lexus' big sellers is the ES330 -- a very quiet, very boring FWD car. Buick has -decades- of experience in making such vehicles! They just need to edge forward in luxury, style, and build quality.
