So I guess someone (*cough*cough*) decided to close the other thread. God forbid someone make a thread about space robots. We can't have that getting in the way of the quality threads in the Lounge. Oh no.

Well, I just got back from the movie. And it was phenomenal. Yes, to a non "fanboy" I can see where it would be confusing. But all you uptight crybabies (you know who you are) can feel free not to go see it, and feel free to ignore this thread. Your opinions are of no relevance to either myself, or the rest of the universe.

The effects were great. And believe or not, the storyline actually made sense. And paid great homage to both the cartoon series, and the comics (yes people, there is a TF universe outside the 80's cartoons.) And while I am not sure what "Bay-ize" is supposed to mean, if you have a problem with his name being attached to it (it seems to me people like to criticize elements of this film they don't even understand) then go suck it and watch something else.

Am I insulting anyone with this thread? I certainly hope so, because you people (again, you know who you are) are whining, self-posturing prima donnas who can't see beyond your own limited scope of what makes entertainment, entertainment.

End of rant. Please resume with your previously scheduled list of socially critical Lounge threads.

Funny enough, when the first one came out, I had NO desire to see it what so ever, thinking it was just another annoying sci-fi movie made exclusively for nerds. A friend invited me to see it at a free theatre later that summer so I said "ah what the hell" and actually really enjoyed it, not just because Megan Fox was in it. It had a good storyline, a good script, and a lot of great action scenes. I didn't buy it on DVD or anything, but I look forward to seeing the second one sometime next week, even if it's nothing more than a good long popcorn flick. And this is coming from a guy with ZERO previous interest in the Transformers.

But I have to wonder, what's next? A Power Rangers movie? :histeric: God, I hope not.

See,a lot of people that originally gave the first one bad reviews are the same one's that gave the second one bad reviews, which are the purists, just like the Star Trek fans that were condemning the new Star Trek movie before it even came out.Yeah,it's not the Transformers you grew up on,because it's not supposed to be a Saturday morning cartoon,it's a more adult oriented movie whit some adult themes such as war,and if you skip out on it,the first or second one, you're missing a good movie.Sorry they used state of the art CGI(the transformations between vehicle and robot form are damn near flawless and very fluid in motion) and gave the Autobots/Decepticons moving mouths when they talk and made this a live action movie.Sorry they didn't look like they cane straight out of a coloring book.Just remember, just because someone gave it a negative review doesn't mean it's a bad thing, judge for yourself because what they like and what you like may be two very different things..Like the saying goes, one mans trash is another mans treasure.I for one don't read the reviews to base my decision on seeing a movie.

Now,on that note,I can't wait for the G.I. Joe movie to come out.And by the way,if you haven't seen the new Star Trek movie, you should. It's pretty kick ass.

I just got back from it. I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't seen the first one in two years, so I forgot the plot, needless to say, this was hard for me to follow. I got the gist of it though. The camera work would make me dizzy in some scenes, and Megan Fox pegged my fap-o-meter, especially in those scenes where she's running through the desert in slow-mo. Overall, it felt kinda like Terminator: Salvation for a younger audience.

With no other movies worth seeing and nothing better to do, I went and saw TF2. It was, by far, one of the worst movies I've seen this decade. It wandered and rambled on and on with one laborious scene after another. Rainn Wilson was the highlight. Everything else was terrible.

I got bored and actually fell asleep twice during the movie. Action is pretty, but unless there's a compelling story to engage me, I can't take much interest.

Its too bad, because the first movie was a lot of fun, with lots of charm. This was uninspired indulgent crap made for a big paycheck.

Alright I waited until I finally saw this..."film"... before chiming in...

First, the Positives:

-I felt the prior reviews stating the quality of the CGI made the film look "cartoonish" were definitely over-blown. The effects, while perhaps not "Star Trek" level, were certainly every bit as impressive as they were in the first film. The actors also interacted just fine with the robot characters and the flow and movement of all of them was very believable and realistic.

-Shia Lebouf turned in another respectable performance for his part, I haven't had any genuine complaints about anything this kid has done thus-far.

-Rainn Wilson was a welcome surprise, albeit a short one.

-Upskirts.

Now for what's left:

I actually TRIED to watch this from the perspective of an over-worked, over-parented, over-strung escape and even then, it was quite awful. It felt as if I were watching a 2.5 hour (!) long infomercial with quite possibly the most epic product placement I have ever seen in any movie to date. I made a mental note and I remember seeing at least GM (obviously), Air France, Garmin, Volvo, Mack, Audi, LG, Sprint, Komatsu, Cisco and countless others I can not even remember shamelessly plastered in my face. GM was expected, the rest were an annoying barage at every turn and very obviously the reason why this movie was made in the first place. Still, even without that, it just wasn't very good at all.

As I expected (and predicted) this iteration of Transformers seemed like a rapidly cobbled together money grab at the direction of deep pockets who saw the response to the first film and wanted to immediately cash out whatever equity was left in the franchise. I remember being somewhat concerned that a sequel was put together so quickly after the first film, a usual indication of problems. Even the X-Men series films had a little more breathing room. Given all that, I tried to give this movie a pass from the (weak) perspective of it being merely a fun escape from every day life. I almost kind of bought it until I realized that other franchises in the same fantasy genre have had much better sequels, including Hellboy which wasn't ALL that great.

I also found that given the intended audience and the relatively "clean" original, all of the cursing and off-color sexual references did nothing to advance the movie or make it any funnier. In fact, at points this caused the movie to feel like some-what of an awkward train-wreck... ESPECIALLY knowing how many children were in the theater. Dogs humping, the same gratuitous upskirts mentioned above, an oversexed mother high on spiked brownies with the mouth of a sailor and robots with nutsacks not only didn't contribute anything to the movie, it barely got anything but muted awkward chuckles from the audience. I suspect this and an overt use of scat jokes is what ultimately did in Year One as well, despite having an all "A-List" cast. Another 20 percentile freak-show I ended up passing, even though I'm a huge Michael Cera fan.

The bottom line is it just isn't an escape if you find yourself waiting for it to end. I'd say Chad has done the best job of encapsulating this disaster as Terminator IV for kids. Ok, I'll buy that.

According to Rolling Stone, it's a contender for worst movie of the decade.

http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/movie/25458013/review/28840142/transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen

When Hasbro invented those Transformers toys, the intention was for kids to use their imagination about what those bots would morph into. Bay crushes that imagination with his own crude interpretations that seem untouched by human hands and spirit. I know there are still 17 months to go, but I'm thinking Transformers 2 has a shot at the title Worst Movie of the Decade.

The heroic Optimus Prime's character is very, very well portrayed here. You see him make an impossible stand against about six Decepticons just to protect Sam. You see him nearly beaten, knowing he's about to be killed, and rushing his attackers on even the slightest chance that Sam would escape.

You also get to see how Prime's ancestors fought in humanity's earliest days, sometimes even side by side with them.

Bumblebee gets a lot more involved with combat in this sequel as well. He can be seen extracting Sam and Mikaela under heavy Decepticon fire and conducting an ambush of attacking enemy.

As far as the character portrayals and heroism, this movie was well made.

3. Speaking of Megatron's rebirth, when the Decepticons venture deep into the ocean to revive him, the Navy crew tracking them reads five contacts. When they get down there, they tear apart one of the robots for parts to rebuild Megatron. Then as they rise to the surface, the same Navy guys say they spot six contacts. The little "Doctor" robot popped out down there, but he's about a third of the size of a person. Would he have shown up on sonar?

Uhh, didn't five of them go and revive Megatron, so there would be six afterwards?
