and i must say i am very pleased. i already sold my 8gb 3g phone for $299 via craigs list (put $100 in my pocket for getting a new phone) the video and editing for this thing is awesome! worth the upgrade in itself. voice command is really sweet as well. its much faster and smoother then my last 3g. so for anyone considering getting one it gets a  from me.

i just posted a video on youtube from the phone. as soon as its published i will post the link for those of you who are interested

I'm more interested to find out if ANYONE here has yet purchased and is using a Palm Pre (which after a quick test drive felt pretty flimsy and had very sharp edges). After my iPhone, my Treo 755P was the best phone I ever owned... and in some aspects, actually was better.

I was gonna buy one for my woman, until she wrecked the car and i had to buy a new one (my lovely caddy..). if its any thing like the last gen palms it will be a great little rock solid phone. i have a company issued BB (god i hate it) other wise i would buy one for my self. palm > blackberry. hell old brick 'zack morris' phone > than black berry.

Now there's perfectly sound rationale... Hard to argue with that :thehand:

How the eff did you find a moron to pay $299 for a used 3G iPhone?? :cookoo:

That's part of the reason I'll never understand the friggin' loonies on Craigslist and why most of them drive me crazy... You'll get some who'll shell out 300 bucks on a used 3G, yet there are so many others that do nothing but lowball and will actually take the time to offer $50 on a computer which is only listed for $250 - despite being worth twice as much.

.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I think there is some truth to what EJ said about Jailbroken phones commanding a premium, but 299 for a regular iphone... I'd like to sell that person some oceanfront property in Nevada.

LOL, opposite for me. I like Apple but I've never cared much for the iPhone.

I like how Apple simplifies complicated things, but my mobile devices have rarely been complicated enough to justify simplicity in exchange for fewer basic features (fewer until very recently).

With Palm OS, ease of use has never been something I needed more of from handheld toys.

I've never understood the appeal of the touch screen. My fat fingers can never find the right button on an Iphone, texting is 100x easier on a phone with a full button keyboard.

I would LOVE an iPhone with a Treo keyboard...

That's freaking hilarious. You can buy the same 8GB 3G iPhone NEW from ATT for $99.

I guess for $200 you get a phone without cell coverage - or an iPod Touch as I like to call them.

I hope you bought some lottery tickets with that profit.

That's just friggin' insane...

I know it used to and I can fully understand why people would pay a premium for used original iPhone... That being, the same exact reason why I refuse to upgrade my phone, so to take advantage of the cheaper data plan.

But jailbroken or not... How painfully stupid does a person have to be to spend $300 on a used 3G iPhone? I mean really... Especially since the plain-jane 3G iPhone can be had for only $99 these days. Hell... Even before the price drop, they were only $199.

The only thing you are under-estimating there is the growing legion of people who REFUSE to be bound to a Carrier under any circumstance. To them the freedom of not having a non-contract iPhone is worth the extra cost, especially the unlocked ones that can be used on ANY GSM carrier.

On that same token, there are many many people for reasons of credit or otherwise can not start a new contract with ATT at all. Their choice is to pay full prce and go Prepaid, or stick with their current GSM Carrier and again, pick up an unlocked one. Still... 300.00 for a used phone is alot.

You do make some valid points... However, I suppose it's hard for such things to ever register with me simply because I've had the same cell number on the same account for close to 15 years. In fact, my number has outlived two companies - when I bought my first phone, it was through Comcast Cellular One... Then CCO begat Cingular... Then Cingular begat AT&T.

So when something comes up with my cell that require a contract renewal, it doesn't even phase me... Since I've had the damn thing so long, another year or two doesn't ever really bother me one bit...

T-Mobile has "flex pay" which allows you to sign up for a standard plan without a contract. The only problem is that you miss out on the phone discounts. I suppose thats who would buy an unlocked iPhone.

iphones are Cool I geuss,.. but I got a phone more Worthy of my newly purchaced Cadillac statis. Motorola V9x! Not that it has a Full "Stainless Steel" Frame, or is fully 3G and GPS, but I can watch TV and catch up on the Daily Show while checkin up on all you fine people here. Has the same memory capabilities of the iphone, music, video, Awesome camera, and External touch screen with Internal wide screen. Audio is desent Too. And with the right wheelin and dealin, you can get one for Free, though the V9x is only supported by ATT.

And as a Side note. Ive been with ATT since there was still Strings bettween the phones. My 5yr old Razor was wearing out so I called to get a new one, and they wanted to charge me 80 bucks More than a New Customer off the street,.. this will not DO! After shopping for phones I found the V9x which came out in January, so it's pretty new too. ATT acted like it was someting they never heard of but the "X" stands for ATTs GPS network, no one else supports it. You can MSG me if you want to hear more but Long story Short, I made a Deal with their "Customer Relation" department, the guys you talk with if you tell them your changing carriers. They Paid for my phone from Amazon, waved the Upgrae fee, and I have 6 monthes of Everything Free, internet, text, TV, Video, ect. I Geuss I'll stay with ATT,.. for now. LMFAO

And I lost count of the name changes for Cellular Companies,.. I heard ATT is being bought by FIAT,.. or was that SAAB? FIAT makes fighter planes?,.. no, Chrysler makes Tanks,.. not any More? VIGGEN?,.. is that a ATT plan?,.. I'm so confused! hehe

Does the Casino here serve Free Drinks? Better Google that on my Phone,.. and Speaking of aircraft, the V9x has an airplane mode so you can write texts and the like, or listen to music or videos and use the camera Too off network. Now I gotta buy me a Plane and see how it Works!

Why?

AMGoff

Why?

Just as I said... To take advantage of the cheaper data plan. Not only is the EDGE data plan for the original iPhone cheaper than the current 3G data plan, but it also included 200 text messages per month, which the current plan does not.

When you get an iPhone (with AT&T at least), you are forced to get a data plan... No ifs, ands, or buts. So for those who are rarely away from a wifi signal or simply aren't concerned with the extra speed of 3G, then it doesn't make much sense to be forced into spending more, all while getting less.

Not only that... but 3G service is still far from widespread. Outside of metropolitan areas, there's still a whole lot of country where 3G access isn't available. AT&T still forces iPhone 3G customers to pay the same for the plan, even if 3G service isn't available.

So even though the iPhone 3G was technically better than the original model, many people would still pay a premium to buy a used version of the latter.

i would get a 3GS but i already have a compass...

about people who have crappy credit and buy an iphone to go prepaid

they spend 300 on an iphone when they should be using it to pay bills or fix their damn credit! but no they wanna be cool. (disclaimer, i have bad credit. i admit in my younger days i used to buy unnecessary ish and then get behind on my bills. i have matured and changed my ways :) my credit is on the come up. just saying i post from experience )

also, lets say you have bad credit and have a $300 deposit...

+$300 deposit
+$99 Iphone 3G 8gig
+$1079.88 Nation 450 with 5000 night&wknd unlimited txt and unlimited IPhone data for 12 months
_______
$1478.88
-$300 returned security deposit if you leave the account open for a year
$1178.88

vs

+300 for a no contract iphone
+1079.88/yr for 400 anytime minutes 300 night&wknd minutes unlimited txt and 100megs of web (which the iphone will burn thru in a week or less)
_________
$1379.88

with postpaid you get the deposit back
you get more minutes, more data and all the iphone features work (such as visual voicemail which doesnt work on prepaid) you also get access to more towers (at&t doesnt allow prepaid users to roam on certain towers even if they are listed on the roaming agreement, so in essence, prepaid customers dont have access to the "full" network)
