So today I stumbled across a 1988 Brougham with 27k on it. This car is extremely clean and has been garaged it's entire life.

The guy wants $4000 for it.

Is this a great deal or is it just OK. I would buy it to show and as an occasional driver.

Sounds like a deal. People are asking that for clean cars with close to 100k on them now a days. I just looked at an '80 coupe with 123k on it for $6000. Did it have any options to make it more desirable? (i.e. d'elegance, or astroroof)

Look at it this way:
- what else can you buy that is nice for 4k?
- what else can you buy, drive for ten years, put on at least 50k miles, and sell for close to your investment?
- what else can you buy that you can do most of the work on yourself?
- what else can you buy that the parts are dirt cheap for?
- what else can you buy for 4k that will be reliable enough to drive anywhere without worrying about?

I'm sure you can guess my opinion... ;)

The Kelly Blue Book Value for an 89 Brougham is $1,925, excellent condition (Albany zip code).

Work the guy down to around 25.

The day he put the car out he had an offer for 2500. He threw the guy off his lawn.

He's knows what he has. He also has an 80 something Continental in his garage with 20k on it.

As far as I know it's just a Brougham. No moon roof / Astroroof.

I say it's worth it. There are people around Chicago trying to pawn off '88-'92 Broughams with 50-100k miles for like $6000. I got mine for $3500.

Definetly a great buy IMO. Its a pretty and very desirable color combo as well. KBB and NADA have their heads up their asses on the values of these cars. The ones that sell for under $3,000 usually have some sort of cosmetic or mechanical issues.

OK so my next question is, what's the longevity like with the 305 ? That's one engine I never owned. Anything I should know?

The motor is a 307 oldsmobile engine that will do pretty good under normal driving condition, its just not the best option for a heavy car. I, personally, think the price is high. But I'm in the MN market so they seem a little cheaper here

Do these cars have 14" tires on them.

Tire Rack says 205/75/14 Is that right ?

I didn't look at the tires on the car but other sites say 225/75/15

I guess it doesn't matter I was just curious. The tires actually have less than 500 miles on them.

I'll probably buy this car within the next couple days.

225/75/15

That's the correct size.

Price is not high for the mileage...

Wow, what's a nice car too. I love the gray and it's got real wires on it.

That's a beauty as well, I usually don't like silver or grey, but that one really pops with the black top. I want those center caps off of his wheels as well, they're mint.

Yea, theres a few broughams like that up here(at least they claim as good). Thats why I have so many...I love these cars. If you could pay for shipping or take a trip, I would consider the grey one. I think you would be very satified with it. Call and see if he will knock off enough to get it home. Its been posted for a while..

I got my guy down to $3800 today and he's 20 minutes up the street. I really hate to buy cars long distance.
