We are in the final design stages of a new hood for the 09+ CTS V's. Here are some pictures of it going onto our mill for laser scanning and finally milling.

Are those extractors going to be functional? Looks killer.

Specter Werkes Sports
06-09-09, 04:30 PM
Yes, they will be functional extractors. At this point we are laser scanning the driver side of the hood, once we make it to the centerline we will mirror the image and mill it out to the passenger side.

After that we will come back and hand model it to a perfect surface. When that is complete, we will build our first tool off of the clay model.

doubt it will be lighter...usually fiberglass. The thin aluminum on the V is hard to beat weight-wise.

A diffuser would be nice. Ether gray or body color (mine is white). Would really enhance the rear look if it had a steep enough angle with some vertical pillars.

I agree. Great hood, and great grille, more aggressive yet relates better to the standard car. There is probably reduced cooling area, but perhaps hood louvres improve flow through the radiators to counteract the opening reduction. Great look, and still Caddy. I would consider this mod for my car.

How much do you think it will cost? Price it too high and you will guarantee copy cats.

Think about just opening the ends of the vent detail and forget the grill. Imagine how cool a modest RAM Air look would be. Even if you have to draw some (or all) of the air from the original location. Imagine a really subdued FireHawk hood (not the G8 but the Firebird Firehawk) or a dual ram air firebird. Less pronounced, more sophisticated but truly different and functional.

http://www.firebirdgallery.com/4th%20Gen%20Images/99fk11.4.jpg

Worst case don’t use the air for CAI but rather to simply to add air under the hood. Kind of like the vents in the side….. Imagine it..

Imagine a cross between the Firebird Firehawk (pictured above) and the G8 Firehawk. Instead of indenting in front of the scoops - just let the supercharger bulge be the top of the hood and cut out the front leading edge. Nicely understated.

Not really a RAM Air firebird but rather a RAM Air Firehawk. The Firehawk was a factory option that sent your firebird to Street Legal Performance (SLP) in Tom's River NJ. They put on the new functional hood, larger wheels and tires and a new high performance exhaust system (CAT and all). Then it was shipped to your dealer. Limited edition.

Yeah, they were pretty rare, but I still prefer the look of the 4 vents on the Trans Am

I wonder if we could simply cut the leading edge of the super charger bulge on the existing hood and add a color matched insert over the edge of the cut metal and some rain solution inside (to channel water properly) and end up with something "sort of" like this? A little more upscale looking (maybe carbon fiber insert?) but you get what I mean.

:yeah: Good idea, I'd like to see this Photoshopped to see how it would look.

Someone with a car color other than black - take a strip of 2 inch wide by 10 inches long black construction paper, round off the ends and apply a mist of water to make it stick to your paint slightly. Place it on the leading edge of the super charger bulge and take a picture from straight on. At the same level of the hood. It should give us an idea of what a RAM Air modification of the existing hood would look like.

Thanks.

Haterinc

It is quite a process taking an idea to a final product but here is a "Readers Digest" on how the process happens.

For the CTS-V Spoiler, it started off with clay modeling the spoiler on a new CTS V
http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s88/specterwerkes/DSCN0613.jpg
After the clay is finalized we build a plaster mold off of the clay
For example, not on a CTS V
http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s88/specterwerkes/DSCN0440.jpg
When the initial tool is made we begin by making some refinements to the tool itself.
Next, a "first part" is build off of the initial tooling. This part will become the Master plug. It will be put back on the car checked for fitment and finally polished and refined to the point of an "A" surface.

At this point, we will make master tooling off of the first master plug. This is our Master Plug from what we will make the master tooling from and finally a completed part.

It doesn't look 'ricer' whatsoever; and it appears to stay in-step with the V's angular & aggressive nature without being too uhh, overt. Methinks you have a winner there.

How about something simple for the trunk....
Like a third brake-light delete option. something where the spoiler brake light could be removed, and a smooth (following the lines of the trunk with no raise) brake light replace it...

I would love a raised hood (like you're designing) and a smooth trunk. Possible?
