I have a few questions about installing a pioneer cd player (p-4100 i think) in my 72 deville.

The dash has already been modified where the old radio was to accomodate a new cassette player, but I have documentation showing this was done in about 1981.

So, I plan on taking off that dash panel and dremeling it so my new cd player fits in there. Is there any problem with clearance as far as depth of the new units?

Also, I figure the wiring for the original radio contains fewer wires than I need to install the new cd player with all its capabilities intact. Are there any tricks I should know?

I'm going to be adding an amp and subs. Because this car is so long, is it safe to install a modest amp under the power seat on the drivers or passenger side, or should I buy enough wire to have it in the trunk?

I think the wiring from the positive battery post would be easy to run through the firewall down by the fuse panel on the driver's side. Is there an equally easy access on the passenger side (nearer the battery)?

Also, to get from the passenger compartment to the trunk, whats the best possible path? Can I just pull the rear seat forward and slip the wires through?

Thanks for any info you can give me - I'd like to take care of this tomorrow if possible.

-Bill

Measure your depth for clearance, but you should have Plenty in that Big Caddy :) Check your wires with either a test light or a Volt/ohm meter. You will need a 12 volt constant wire "usually yellow" for your stereos "memory" and a separate 12 volt wire "RED" that is hot with the ignition key in the ON position to power up your stereo, and ground it well to a non-painted metal surface with the "Black" wire. On your Amp Kit wires, you have to run the hot wire from your battery and take the shortest path to the trunk. Make sure you have big enough wire to power up your amps, i would suggest 4 ga. as a standard size wire. Mount the amps in the trunk, not under the seats. Ground the amps in the trunk to a solid ground, like a bolt, and make sure the metal is bare that you ground it to, remove any paint or undercoating to the surface. Use the shortest possable length of ground wire to reduce Noise. Run your RCA wires on the opposite side you ran the power wire to your trunk, this will also reduce any unwanted noise. Hide all your wires from front to back and make sure none of them are pinched in any way. Make sure the hot wire is fused up by your battery, also on your stereo and back at the amps with a Fuse Block. Run your Remote "blue wire" from your stereo back to the trunk. I have seen cars burn to the ground that were not properly fused so it's "CHEAP INSURANCE"
Good luck with your install and if you have any more questions fell free to ask.
