Hello donnieb and welcome!

You might want to visit this website and contact Mr. Hussey about your problem. He is very knowledgeable and I'm sure can either help you or point you in the right direction.

The car will pretty much tell you what is wrong if you know how to get the read out from the computer. Before I found a shop manual to buy, I was using one from the local library. In the reference area there were three manuals for 1989 Cadillac and Volume III was Allante. It is difficult to do much without it.

Donnieb,

Did you ever get this resolved? My 89 is doing the same thing.
Thanks

Sometimes the heater/ac fan keeps running you have to replace the module on the firewall.

i have an 89 that had a battery drain problem and would not stay running. checked fuel pressure which was low, so we changed the fuel pump which solved the running problem, and interestingly the battery drain went away also. has any one else experienced this, a bad fuel pump causing a battery drain?

The way the fuel pump is powered, power to the fuel relay is killed when the ignition is turned off. Unless someone monkeyed with the wiring, it is virtually impossible for a weak fuel pump to cause a battery drain. This may be a coincidence, or whatever was causing the drain might have somehow been disturbed.

battery drain is a common issue with the Allante.
one can look for the problem and find it or
you can look for years and be frustrated.

in the mean time, read the quote at the end,
it will provide a solution w/o finding the problem.

this may also be a good time to look at a GEL battery.
GELs dont spill, dont vent and are CLEAN .. something important
in a car that carries the battery in the passenger compartment.
Red Top Optimas physically fit and have plenty of CCA's for the Allante.
there are others, i just happen to own the Optimas as COSTCO
around the corners carries those.

if you do have a electrical drain, you may also want to consider
a battery tender that keeps the battery charged and/or a
Priority Start automatic battery saver device to disconnect when voltage drops.

after the battery voltage drops below 11.9 volts, the Priority Start
device disconnects the battery to prevent further drain.
when you turn the ignition key on, the battery automatically
re-connects to let the car start.

two solutions for anybody who has a battery drain problem,
or simply stores the cars for the winter.

Find the problem, find the problem, find the problem and fix it of course. But as Stealth said in ithe earlier post, I just bought a priority start on ebay for $63 delivered and I think it is fantastic. Bsttery goes <12 volts and the battery is automatically disconnected. Hit start and it automatically connects. Not the best alternative to finding and fixing but 'til you do, it is cheap insurance.
A highly recommended product!

I second that motion Bill. And no I don't get $3 for every Priority Start I recommend (but I sure wish I did). I've had mine installed for 2 months, and it works great.

Like we all know: There are Allante owners with battery drain problems and those who will have them.

The Priority Start at least removes some of the frustration, so you can enjoy the nice aspects of the Allante without spending hours, days, weeks or years tracking down random 2 to 3 day battery drain issues.
