This is a great forum. Have gotten excellent help before. And looking for more......
Well here I am AGAIN after posting the following thread last week http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16454
After completing basic diagnosis, I took the car (97 STS) into the workshop (with no time on hands as I recently moved). My reliable expert spent THREE DAYS on it and couldn't fix the problem. So now I have the car back and have started to work on it MYSELF.
Per GM service manual for 97 STS, enough volts are not being supplied to the blower motor. I get 12V and 0V at points A & C, but not enough at Point B. B should receive 4V at HI fan but only 0.02V are supplied; and 0.1V at Intermediate fan speed.
Per manual, the circuit from A/C programmer to Blower Motor should be checked and if OK, then replace the A/C programmer. I had a hard time locating the programmer and when I did at the dealership - $456.68 - OUCH!!!!
I checked the connector at the blower motor and it was OK. Will check again and also connector at the programmer and then the cable.
I NEED HELP on figuring out that I am going down the right path. Has anybody else experienced this or heard of this problem? Is there any site on internet to buy the programmer cheaper?
Is there a feedback loop from blower to programmer that has made it go in a "fail safe mode" and not send required volts to blower? No ACM (air control module aka a/c programmer) codes are set. Programmer is located on the driver side against front wall to the extreme right.
Waiting desperately for a reply. Becoming difficult to drive in 100F. Thanks a million (in advance).
