View Full Version : The New Ford "500" Msilva954 07-15-04, 06:53 PM The chevy classic thread gave me an idea.....so what do you guys think of the new Ford 500....Ive got some real pics of it. I think its the best new car out of america...forget the new CTS STS and Chrysler 300......those all are at a different marketplace....and we all know the base 300s are crap.
First thing I notice about this car is how much bigger it is then the Taurus, and it has distinct styling that set it apart from the Japanese....I think it looks quite nice compared to anything america offers or Japan offers in this segment......
Next thing I notice is how GREAT the interior looks on this new Ford....the fit & finish is many levels beyond anything Ford has offered and it is much better then many other american cars too.
It has a 6sp standard with the FWD and it has an optional CVT with FWD and standard with the AWD. The engine is the same 3.0 Duratec but I dont know the final HP and Tq specs yet..but once the 3.5 250 hp engine comes I think it will be a fine american automobile. I would definently not mind driving one of these in the Limited quise like this one here. So what do you guys think??

They should quit trying to sling these front drive #$%# boxes , we need the aussie Falcon !!! Take that blue-oval off the grille, and put on those 4 interlocking circles and the world will be 100% positive that you are driving an Audi A6. Chuck C 07-15-04, 10:14 PM I think it's gonna be a solid car for Ford...gobs of back seat room, AWD availability, no more bean-shape styling Msilva954 07-15-04, 11:10 PM I think the handling should be pretty good too since its based off of the Volvo S80. RBraczyk 07-15-04, 11:26 PM Since volvo is a part of ford now im glad they started sucking their designs off of them Have to see one in person I guess. It looks good. I'm still getting over how much I like the 300. :rolleyes2 Randy_W 07-16-04, 08:02 AM I guess the only thing left is for GM to produce the '700'! Slick V 07-16-04, 08:29 AM I thought that was going to be the next Ford Police Cruiser, that is untill I saw it was FWD. Dont think thats the route various police stations want to go. Msilva954 07-16-04, 08:55 AM I guess the only thing left is for GM to produce the '700'!
Only that the 300 and 500 mean something for their companies....wht would 700 mean..??? Stoneage_Caddy 07-16-04, 09:54 AM the ammount of horse power it has !!!!! Msilva954 07-16-04, 01:58 PM Unless its a Corvette it will never happen........still wont happen.....Id love to see a sleeper Malibu 700 edition....haha. Stoneage_Caddy 07-16-04, 02:19 PM i could see it now , a 4 door ,corvette based car with a 455 cube LS2 Based V8 , called Tempest 700 , er no thatd make me mad , bring over the Holden Commedore and throw that 455 its way badged as a 454 and make it look like the 97-02 Malibu , Call it ..the Lumina 700 Eurosport ...no one would ever think that car had any kind of cajones Randy_W 07-16-04, 09:18 PM Only that the 300 and 500 mean something for their companies....wht would 700 mean..???
There was a Corvair 700 in the early '60's!:D Stoneage_Caddy 07-16-04, 09:19 PM yah , wasnt that the pickup version ? Msilva954 07-17-04, 08:23 AM There was a Corvair 700 in the early '60's!:D
So I guess that will be the next out.....a trim version of the Cobalt none the less....hahaha I can see it now. Msilva954 07-20-04, 10:04 PM Found some more pics off of another forum....this really shows its size....and look at the back seats..about the same as my 92' deville...maybe more....According to what one of the Visteon guys says...."Its much faster then the 200hp Taurus" and it gets 28mpg. Oh yea...looks to be the best quality leather ford has ever used.

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/uploads/post-7-1090372915.jpg davesdeville 07-21-04, 04:11 PM I'd take the lincoln next to it in that pic. The 3.0 manages 203hp and 207ft.lbs. through either a 6spd manual or continuously variable trans. It's a pretty nice car for a (I guess this qualifies as a full size sedan these days). I'd save my money for a 300 though, even a base 300. Msilva954 07-21-04, 09:16 PM NOOOOO....the base 300 sucks...though the Hemi is great....I dont think I have ever driven a car with a top of the line engine......and noticed such a HUGE difference in the driving experience then I have with this car......its night and day....in my opinion the base 300 needs to seriously be dropped from the lineup. davesdeville 07-21-04, 11:30 PM I was comparing the Ford 500 to a $22k base 300. I dunno how much the 500 costs, although it's probably less than a base 300. Why would Chrysler drop the base 300? It's a solid full size sedan. The 300C w/Hemi is a step up over either of these cars. The 500 looks sharp, but like the new Focus, I hope the interior FEELS better than it LOOKS.
Rented a new Focus. WHAT A NOISY SLOW AND UNCOMFORTABLE PILE OF FREAKING GARBAGE. I also drove around a 94 Chrysler LHS and an 85 Nissan Maxima that week and liked them both better.
