: Stock crank HP?

What type of horse power are people putting out on a oem crank from the N*?

This question is not for a cadillac but just the N* motor in general.

I'm sure some fiero guys might know.

What are the stock pistons good for HP wise?

Also does anyone know the setup for internals the guy used in his turbo seville STS? pistons, rods, etc.?

Thanks

huh I'm surprised no one has chimed in yet.

.......it's all in here in dozens of threads. For non-stock HP and internal parts, contact CHRFAB directly.

monte........Nobody's being nasty or snotty........Every question you have asked is all in here, spread over several years of Northstar FWD and RWD work. There are no hard and fast HP guesses because every custom Northstar engine build (non-Seville/Deville/Eldorado) is different. Find the thread on the one-off turbo Seville. It's here, with pictures and explanations.

The RWD Northstar is currently pushing 600 supercharged HP, but it won't fit in a FWD vehicle. Or maybe not in a transverse RWD, either.

You're in virgin territory, and there's really not a big database to draw from.

You're the pioneer here, so everyone's watching. You're looking in a primarily FWD Northstar forum, so 99% of members have no idea of what you're trying to do. I build a lot of Olds 455's, both street and marine, but I couldn't tell you who makes what in the way of custom parts for a Northstar.

Last time at the track we pushed another 400 shot a nitrous through the engine until we emptied 2 bottles.

you can always ask Will over on Pennock's

WTF :hmm: Are you serious. That sounds a bit extreme.

And who is Will?

EDIT: Is that stock pistons, rods, and crank?

any follow up on this AJ. What can I throw at these internals.

I would not throw more than a 150hp shot, or 200 with real good tuning and keeping a close eye on things, on any engine with hyper eutectic pistons. They crack too easily.

I was gonna say maybe a 150 too.

100% stock why? This isn't a FORD

What is better Cast or Forged crank?
Cast or Forged will break first?
Cast or Forged will bend and not break?
You are in a race (Not a 1/4 at a time race) and you have an ignition malfunction or something else that stresses the crank is it better to have a Cast or Forged crank?
In this non FIA, Sprint Cup or other high level of racing or even top series (late model) at your local track. The type of series that requires OE parts. Is it better to have a Cast or Forged Crank?

So you spent all that money for a OE forged crank and then it snaps like a twig. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :histeric:

Cast crank for me every time. Let it bend it is cheaper than if it snaps

Cast iron breaks.

Forged iron bends.

Cast iron breaks.

Forged iron bends.
I've had both break for me at one time or another. A cast crank is really nodular iron like pipe fittings and is pretty fair. A forged crank can be some pretty exotic stuff and still break. A billet crank can be really expensive and it'll break too.

We're not talking cranks, we're talking pistons. Hyper eutectic pistons are stronger and more durable than a cast but more brittle, and not near as strong as a forged. Hyper pistons don't last long with detonation, which is a big risk spraying a 200+ shot.

And I'll take the forged crank because if you're at a level where you are breaking a forged crank, the cast never would've made it that far to begin with!

So yours is not stock I guess. So same question still what can I safely spray at this motor.

I just want to know what you would put on it and use it pretty often without worrying.

But a 400 shot is not safe on a all stock motor. So is a 150 shot???? Thats my question. I know now you are stock but what is a safe size shot that I can run often.

The last time at the track we thru some huge jets at it. I will check to see what they were when I pull then out (soon).
Just an update gentlemen. Running the 150 shot jets on the street, having way to much fun until the bottle runs empty.:crybaby:

We've run at least 20 bottles through it, got it down to the track once, and I've been driving allot lately. And have had no real problems since getting her dialed in on these jets. The filter got plugged up once, but since then, well... lets just say I've been having lots of fun. It truly is the most fun you can have with a bottle. I have had NO ill effects, still a wonderful daily driver!!!

We are currently working on slicks and possibly a LSD before we get to the track again, but we'll get down there again. We'll run big jets and we will bust into the 12's this summer, period. It has become the mission of my summer. I'll keep you all updated.:yup:

I was saying the 150 shot jet's. That's what I plan to use. But if I can go higher and still be safe I will.

Sounds like the 150 shot is on the safe side. I may be looking to bump that up a tad. 200???

If you're going to go over 150 I'd at least recommend going to a two-stage setup.

A single-stage 200 shot on a motor with known HG sealing problems...I wouldn't be surprised if you at least pushed some water, if not popped the HG at some point.

AJ,

I'm no longer allowed to use the PM system due to being a newbie and the email I have for you is no longer valid. Can you send me a valid contact to altamore7 @ h.... o..... t...... m...ai.l or PM me at least I should be able to read it.

I'm ready to have my gm perf E67 flashed that we talked about a few months ago.

If someone who knows AJ can relay this message it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

I have head studs, so I should be good.

Well assuming the motor takes it, a 200 hit on a FWD car with 225 street tires is going to have severe traction issues. I'd at least delay spraying until 2nd gear if you still don't want to run 2 stages, which would be my first choice.

32vmonte

Im ready for the traction also. 275 MT ET streets up front. I'm installing coilovers so I may be able to fit larger tires I hope than the 275. The car that the motor is in can't fit a 275 without a wheel with enough offset. The tire begins to rub the spring perch.

May main concern was mainly the motor and what it will handle safely. We will see I guess.
