will my onstar be disabled if i install a aftermarket headunit/flip up monitor? thats what i have been hearing, but i thought it was just a rumor?

yes it will be...What I did was that I kept the head unit and installed a pioneer avic N1 where the cd changer was. This way I can Still use onstar and my sterring wheel controls.

so your n1 controls your system, dvd, navi, etc. and the stock unit will only run the onstar, steering wheel controls, and garage openers?

I put a new headunit in my escalade and it did disable onstar. Hower i chose not to put in the pac1 interface (check crutchfield) which woulda cost 100$. If you put that in it stll keeps onstar with a aftermarket deck.

i haven't activated my free 6 months (since it was certified pre-owned i get that) but i might next week since i'm going on a long trip. but i just like to know everything on my truck works. so i'm planning on relocating my headunit. unless my friend can figure out how to keep all the extras still working.

You not only lose onstar with aftermarket radio by you also lose your chimes. You'll need a PAC OS-2 & CM1 http://www.pac-audio.com/products/onstar.htm

Hey King Vinnie, with your Kenwood, do you still retain the steering wheel controls, rear park assist, and onstar? Did anything else get affected by you upgrading your headunit? Thanks in advance!
