I have a Mach 1 Mustang right now and am looking for a more comfortable daily driver instead. I really like the styling of the STS. I probably can only afford an 05. How is the reliability of the 05 STS? I've heard some negative things about the old STS's.
Anyone drive theirs in the snow? I'm also looking at the Lincoln Zephyr's, about the same price. I'm just looking for a good DD that's classy and will last me a while.

If the car will be driven in snow, consider snow tires in the Winter. AWD models may have a suspension more performance oriented than you're expecting.

i went from a 11 second trans am to this car and i can say its a great overall car. Good power good luxury good handleing.
You wont be disapointed. It also runs mid 13's w/ only a axleback exhaust and K&N air filter.

nice, my Mach with full bolt ons ran a 12.3 at the track. But now I'm looking to get out of the sports car game into something more comfortable. Do you have the 6 or the 8?

I will have had my '05 STS / V8 / rwd for one year on 20 June 2009.

Bought it with 38K miles on Ebay (a lease return), out of Dallas, then purchased a GMPP extended warranty, online, as well.

The car has been great. I chose a Denver dealer as my service "center" and they have been great to work with, fixing a few minor factory warrantied problems prior to my hitting 50k miles.

Since going into the extended warranty phase of ownership, no problems at all. But I do sleep better knowing I've got the extra coverage should problems appear down the road.

The car is a bit squirrely in the snow. I only drove it infrequently, this last winter (with highway tires) as I have a 4wd truck for the Colorado snow days.

Hope this is helpful.

I can't s ay enough about mine. Have no problems whatsoever, just about to hit 20k too... I don't think the little old lady that had it drove it much... I so love the power, handling and the 15 speaker bose system is outstanding (and I am NOT a Bose fan at all....). I have yet to drive this car in the snow though. We'll see next winter how my AWD goes. I can't imagine it being any worse then a front wheel drive car...

I can't imagine the winter performance being any worse than your Mustang..........sucky.
But, that's why I have a 4wd Explorer for the winter. :)

I have an '05 STS V8 RWD and it's horrible in the snow with the stock tires/wheels. I had a Jeep the only winter that I've owned this STS, so I tried to avoid driving it in the snow.

That being said...great car, great value for the money, it's one of the few cars I've owned that I've ever loved (and I've owned a lot of cars). I've sold the Jeep and plan on buying a set of snow tires/wheels later in the year.

I have an 05 STS and a 1996 Mustang Cobra also. The Cobra doesn't see winter and the STS doesn't see snow. It saw snow once and that was enough for me. When it snows, then I have a 1998 Ford Ranger that is incredible in the snow. I love my STS, I mean I love my STS. I would recommend it to anybody and everybody that rides in it comments to me what a nice car it is. If you buy one, make sure that it has a "certified warranty". Lots of toys on these cars and they do break or need to be adjusted. It hasn't been the most reliable car I have ever owned but I will say that it is the "best" all round car that I have ever owned. If it was my only means of transportation and I had to drive in a lot of snow (not sure where you live), I would think twice or look for an AWD.

Yes it is pretty quick for the kind of car that it is, but it's nothing like the Cobra. Good luck.
