: Glare from chrome vent trim

I just purchased a 2009 SRX and I really like it.

However, I just noticed a glare coming off the interior front dash chrome tinted AC/Heater vents and they reflect badly onto the exterior side view mirrors.

I noticed in previous model years, the trim was not chrome.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks
Mike

The trim has been a brushed metallic since 2007 and others have noticed the glare before. We notice it on our '08 but are not troubled by it. Others have addressed the problem by getting their side windows tinted and IIRC one owner actually threatened to have the outboard vents removed and refinished in a matte black.

We see the glare in our '08 but it doesn't seem to be a bother.

Life is tough, man.

Choices:

1. Switch to a Yugo, Kia, or Hyundai.
2. Coat the shining stuff with unshiny stuff.
3. Buy some sun glasses.
4. Quit your _itchin.

So this is how you respond to a new member?

I thought this forum was to help each other with solutions to potential issues and problems-I can do without the smart-aleck response but thanks anyway chum!

My 06 did not have the issue (older interior), but I occasionally get the problem in my 07 Lade (reflection of the aluminum dash panel and vent surrounds) and have driven 07+ SRXs and sometimes noticed it. I always have a light tint on my windows, and I suspect that helps. Also, you do tend to get used to it. I would lightly tint front windows and then see if you get used to it. The aluminum is a good example of form over function. And welcome!

I agree. Unfortunately there seems to be some smart *ss members.
Anyway, welcome.

I too have a 2009 SRX and in addition to experiencing what the OP states I get blinded from time to time by the chrome on the consol shift gate.

It's annoying but seldom lasts for more than a second or two. But when spending $50+K on a new vehicle I like to cut owners with complaints some slack.

Take your own advice and "quit your _itchin".

Welcome to the SRX forum jmmdk5. I have noticed the reflection from time to time but, it hasn't posed a real problem for me. If you are using your open "ultraview" roof, you will increase the chances of getting the reflection. As others have stated, you tend to get used to it and learn ways to avoid it. If it is a real bother to you, have the offending pieces removed and sprayed with a clear flat or dull finish lacquer or poly.
I think that you will find that your SRX has so much to enjoy that it will pale the reflection problems in due time.

Thank you for your warm welcome and I am enjoying the car very much...I am sure I will get used to the glare!

Thanks again!

Interior glare is a PITA. I have an 06 SRX and the only brightwork is the chrome around the shift gate. Sure enough, the sun was reflecting off it into my eyes while stuck in traffic yesterday. I left my hand on the shifter as a sunshade. I'm very glad I don't have an 07 or later SRX.

Some guys will chrome anything that they can get off the car. Think you will find more bright stuff on the Buick Enclave and the GM crossover including the front end and ass end. Be interesting to see the 2010 interior on the SRX.

I drove a 2008 SRX for a couple of days several months ago when my DTS was in for some warranty work. (30 minute job..wait 2 days for the part.)

The only real objection I had to it (other than the lack of power and fairly bad fuel mileage for a V6) was the reflection in the passengers mirror.
It startled me a couple of times...
I would see something out of the corner of my eye...my first thought was... it was a car that had somehow slipped up beside me without me even seeing it.

All it REALLY WAS, was the reflection from the AC vent.
I did not like the reflection.
I found it very distracting and annoying.

It seems like B*tching until it startles you and you think is is a car in your mirror that came out of nowwhere. In the written word, it admittedly seems trivial, in real life, it is pretty annoying. Just had it happen yesterday on the driver's side in my Lade (probably in the same traffic backup as Greg). It happens very rarely in the truck, much more in my experiences in 07+ SRXs.

Oh, the glare prevented you from seeing me on 127 when you merged in and forced me into the orange barrels? Then you probably didn't see my hand gesture. LOL

That was another 2007 quicksilver Lade with tinted windows, mesh side vents and the "God Bless The USA" license plate. Really.... it was...

I have an 09... I noticed the reflection of the vent on my passenger window. It is annoying, but not dangerous. You could always paint over the vents! he he

Hey - I actually got a loaner for my 04 srx and noticed the same thing - i like running with dashboard lights almost dark and streetlights were bouncing off it - i love the look but if it were mine - I would consider having someone tint the chrome there a black - still with some shine but even chrome or black chrome with a "burnished? the word I want" to describe an aged or scratched/antique look. Again - the new dash is very nice - far more plush than the old.
