So at 120,000 kms the rear end is toast. It whines, it growls, it vibrates on braking and slowing, it thumps when I depress the clutch.

I have done a search but I guess the question is what are the otpions?

Can they be repaired with parts?

Is it a given that you have to buy a new one....and how much do they cost?

After-market? madman's looks pretty pricey.

Axles? cradles? bushing?

At this time I'm NOT committed to holding the car for the long-term. 6 - 12 months more (I bought it new in 2004) so I'm inclined to do the "budget" option.

Thanks guys.

Actually all of the symptoms you describe except the whine could be repairable by simply replacing the bushing. You might want to change the fluid more often to keep the whine down for the time of ownership remaining.
