ha, yeh, i felt silly! :banghead2 anyhow, the 4.9 is a great engine with a little maintenance. many people own 4.x engines in the 300k range! you'll find many "satisfied customers" around here!

yeah, most of all, with the aluminam Cad engines, make sure to change the coolant every 1-2years or 24k miles.. and you must add the pellets...

I love my 4.9.... I just wish it had more of a top end, or aftermarket, but it is a great engine...

...just wondering... how many people here have 300k+ on a 4.9?

i am working on a 94' sedan deville with the 4.9 liter, the guy has put 275,000 miles on her and claims that there has been NO rebuild. that is encouragement to me.

My '94 is just about to turn 284k. Works good and yes the tranny has been rebuilt. CV joints too. Also the top bushing went in the left rear stub axle. The caliper was stuck and I think the heat cooked the bushing. The bushings are not replaceable, So I had to replace the whole thing. I now have a rattle under part throttle acceleration. It goes away if I back off. Any ideas?
My '90 with 4.5 pulls harder tho' and has better throttle response. I thought the 4.9 was peppier?

Sounds like you may have a malfunctioning EGR valve. This causes pinging under light throttle applications.

Your 4.9 should be a lot torquier. Once you get the EGR system working properly try advancing the base timing to 13 degrees. Presumably you've already checked for vacuum leaks & cleaned your EGR tubes.

The rattle is not spark knock. It sounds mechanical/metallic. I wonder if the gear ratio is different in the '94 versus the '90. I have plenty of power in the '94 it just feels different.

Couldn't find info on the 90 but the axle ratio was 2.73 in 94 -- pretty long.

Check your rpms at 60 mph in each vehicle & let us know what you get.
