Has anyone actualy felt the difference between regular and premium? :hmm: i run 91 supreme here in cali every time at 2.49 a gallon :halo: hcvone 07-12-04, 08:45 AM If you have a 5.3 then 87 octane is fine, if you have a 6.0 H.O. (all 6.0 engines are High Output engines in the Escalade) then use 91 octane minimum, see page 5-5 in your owners manual. :) fast66 07-12-04, 02:24 PM Skalaid...where are you at in cali? I advise getting gas from costco its around 2.30 there. I try to fill up in costco as much as i can, but usually I'm wasting more gas just going out of my way. hehe I was at beverly hills the other day and I saw 91 octane for $3.29 NOW THAT IS CRAZY. hellrazzer24 07-12-04, 02:27 PM I'm at Beverly Hills and i fill up at $2.19 87 Octane on my 5.3L. Fast66, I think i know which gas station you are talking about. T_Dogg8 07-12-04, 02:54 PM i use 93 octane and it just went back over 2/gallon again. i'm going to mrytle beach in 2 weeks so i'm hoping to find it even cheaper there. costco near me is 1.83 for premium. do you have to be a costco member to get gas there?? outofdablue 07-12-04, 03:46 PM I use 91 octane @ $1.87 Mobile......... Gas is pretty cheap in Jersey, let me rephrase that, CHEAPER in Jersey. T_Dogg8 07-12-04, 03:47 PM it's a small benefit they give you for putting up with all the people there :D j/k ctozzi 08-08-04, 01:33 AM i run 87 in las vegas were it's 110 everyday and i have 24's never had an issue, don't waste $$$ on anything else. Machine 08-09-04, 11:55 AM 91 minimum in the 6.0. You can tell a difference between that and 87 in this engine. OCESCALADE 08-10-04, 02:25 AM After reading the manual it said you can use lower octane but that you would feel the difference in power. I am using 89 right now and did not notice that much of difference. Driving over a 100 miles a day is expensive and it is all highway miles. If gas get cheaper i may go back to the 91. T_Dogg8 08-10-04, 08:26 AM is there any harm to your engine if you use lower octane?? PistolPreeth 08-10-04, 10:24 AM i usually use 87 octane. i usually get 344 miles to the tank this way. when i use 93 octane i get 424 miles per tank. I think that the additional 15 dollars for the extra 80 miles is worth it. hcvone 08-10-04, 10:34 AM is there any harm to your engine if you use lower octane?? There are knock sensors that will retard the timing with lower octane fuel, you may not feel the difference (unless your driving in the Pocono's or over hilly terrain, but your performance and fuel mileage will show it. The knock sensors were added some years past to prevent engine damage. T_Dogg8 08-10-04, 11:44 AM so in other words, you spend less for gas, but get less milage. sort of like going to sheetz for gas :helpless: (a local convience superstore) hcvone 08-10-04, 01:45 PM More or less, that is correct glocklt4 09-28-04, 11:49 PM with 10.0:1 compression you need to use high octane gas. I have rebuilt a couple engines. Built one vette up with a 383 to 11.55:1, my current LT4 vette has 10.8:1 . 11.55 needed 97 octane, 10.8 needs 93 octane. 10.0 probably needs 90-91. 5.3L with 9.5:1 only needs 87. I would NOT put regular into a 10.0:1 ... the reason you lose power is because the computer pulls timing. The way it knows to pull timing, it detects detonation. Detonation is extremely bad.... very very very... bad. If you don't know what that is it means that the gas/air mixture is exploding before the piston gets to the top ... very bad news. always use premium with 6.0 (fyi, higher altitudes obviously need lower octanes...) percentage 09-29-04, 01:35 AM (fyi, higher altitudes obviously need lower octanes...) So, what is the formula for octane vs. altitude? I drive frequently between LA (Pasadena, near sea level) and Reno (4500 feet). I could use lower octane between LA and Bishop, higer between Bishop and Reno? Huh? | |
