I think you need 20 or 20 posts to be able to do that, it's in the software

The necessary number of posts to activate PMs has been raised. You don't need to know what that # is. If you post a bunch of garbage to try to activate your PMs, you'll just end up having that privilege restricted permanantly. THe reason is we've had hundreds of people bombing threads with pointless posts like "cool," "neat," and "nice" (etc) so they could PM people. It irritated the site administrators and the rules changed as a result.

This thread :moved:

I don’t really agree with this, if i join the forum, i do so to communicate with individuals on here and being restricted really defeats the purpose of this forum.
I respect the forums rules and regulations however there should be something else that is done to regulate garbage posts. I have a few members that I need to speak with and I cannot because of this restriction. We are all here to benefit from one another and to help one another and at this point I cant help anyone here.

There is more to it then that.
One reason is its for our members protection. If we allowed new members to join here and start to private message our 90,000 members how many private message you think you would get that would be spamming you to buy penis pumps, P-o-r-n, pills, free DVD's, digital camera, chat links. We would have no control of it unless it gets reported to us since its a private message. You don't even want to know how many we delete from the open forums, because that's as far as the spammers can get here.

The way we have it now works the bests for our community.

You can communicate with anyone of our members here openly and freely in the open forums. No one is stopping you, Besides the info you might be requesting from one of our members or as you say you are trying to help some of our members but you can't because you can't PM them. Do it in the open forums as it can help someone else later on down the road from another member that might have the same problem in the future, where if the problem was solved via private message then there is no value of the forum to help others in the future to look back on. You should understand the value of this, unless you are here for the wrong reason and that's to sell or take advantage of our members. So stay awhile, enjoy the forums, post what you need posted and earn the Private messaging privileges when we know you are here for the right reasons.

Oh and BTW,
After reading some of your other posts,
I can see you have tried to solicit our members here a few times, even been warned via PM from one of our Administrators here about selling, and also had a thread locked where you were inquiring a group buy admitting your in the car business.
So all we are doing is protecting our
Supporting Vendors that support the site and have the right to advertise here, because they help keep this place going so we all have place to turn to when we need help with our vehicles .

Maybe consider becoming a vendor so you can advertise anywhere here and make some money from our members that you are so interested in helping out.

This is not why the forum was created, it is a community. If you want to talk individually with people then you are in the wrong place.

The OP PMd me about this yesterday. My exact reply:

I'm sorry you dislike the rules set up by this site's owners. I've been around here long enough to have seen the tons of spam and garbage posts this rule prevents. It also prevents spammers from signing up and inundating members inboxes with solicitations. If you have and use email you understand exactly what I mean (junk mail for fake Rolex watches, pornography, mail enhancement, etc.) The site owners want none of that here.

You can always email members that provide their email addresses. Most members here have a hotlink to email under their user profile. Until you have been here awhile and contributed enough legitimate time and posts, your ability to PM is restricted. That rule isn't unique to this forum.

I hope you can understand that this is a good rule that is set up to keep the forum clean of spammers and solicitors.

Best wishes,
