So I have searched a ton of threads and ordered in the UUC Diff bushing. I thought I would of had it installed over a month ago but that did not pan out. Today, at our shop I got it on the lift and had a tech ready to go. he pulled me back down to show me the movement in the transmission mount. His thinking was my clunk was coming more so from the movement allowed with the trans mount as opposed to the diff bushing. We hoisted the trans up with a lift with the vehicle in the air and it raised upward over an inch. I was not sure if this was normal and actually absorbing some of the tension built up or just adding to it? The tech was advising me to replace the trans mount first before spending the numerous hours to drop the back end down enough to get the old bushing out and install the new.
Does that amount of play inthe trans mount appear to be normal? I double checked the stock motor mounts and trans mount and i did not see any tear in the rubber or leaking but I was unsure if it would be better to get the UUC trans mount in first or since I have the rear diff bushing here have him do that still now. From what i have read it seems that installing the bushing would help good portion as opposed to the trans mount?
Your trans mount shouldn't be able to really move at all. Its just rubber so it should have some flex but if fits moving over an inch its bad. Regardless of which one you do first, you will have to do them both so why not at the same time. The trans is literally only a 15 min swap if you have the tools right there. The diff bushing isn't bad either. All you do is pull the diff bolts and let it drop down. I had my drive shaft disconnected already so don't know if that is necessary but I'm sure it helped.
I didn't disconnect the driveshaft when I did my diff bushihng. remove the front diff bolt, and passenger rear and that gives you enough clearance to get it out.
I tried to move my trans as well... it wiggled... but it didn't have 1" of play... I agree with ctsv154... that sounds like a lot of play, but even then... I would think it would clunk right under your seat... or not clunk at all... just move... so yeah... do em both just to be sure. No real harm in it except a little cash for the parts...
Thanks. I have the trans mount on order and will have them both done now. Prob will have the tech do the trans one first so he will get off my back about how it is all in the trans mount
Got the trans mount installed and it did cut down on the amount of clunk by a small amount but did not remedy any of the cause. A side result though was a lot more increased cabin noise. I had a problem that sounded like a vibrating panel during certain rpm's when it is cold outside, that is now amplied and occurs during normal acceleration. I am going for the Diff bushing next and may remove the trans bushing back for the stocker as the noise level increase is not wanted when the clunk is still there. I am also trying to figure out where the noise is coming from but have had no success yet. It sounds like it is coming from the RT B pillar to roof area and is there with sun roof open or closed.
UUC diff bushing did slightly increase cabin whine (ring and pinion) from the diff... which I find totally better than the horrid parade clunk. Even under heavy throttle the clunk was so loud sounded like a muffled gun going off.
So the slight whine from 40-60ish is totally a win over the former.
I do not have the UUC diff bushing in yet but I do have the trans mount in. I was expecting a little difference in cabin noise but it went well above what my expectations were ;(
I agree with nmaier. My UUC diff bushing made the whine louder, only I might prefer the parade clunk over this. What's at least as bad is that I don't seem to be able to shift without getting a clunk every time. I used to pride myself on nearly seemless shifts ... smooth as a slushbox. Now, I get somewhat subtle, but definite clunking with every shift. Still have stock trans bushing and MMs. I've got a leaking pinion seal which is to be attended to shortly, but I doubt that is a contributing factor though I might be wrong.
Hmmm.... I was thinking about getting the Trans Mount's, and Diff Bushings when I install my LS7 Clutch Kit, but now Im having 2nd thoughts. I would prefer a slight Clunk, to a Humming rear, and Excess Tranny Noise.... Plus Im still under warranty for another 50k, and 2 years....
I got everything aligned after the lwr dtrl arm replacements. Turns out the front end was off by over a degree on each side after the dealer install. I am going to reinstall the stock trans mount next as then the only clunk will be on a careless shift rather than an ongoing hum.
