Sasquatch

I've got a 69 Cadillac Hearse and I want to replace the shifter knob with a sckull shifter knob. Anybody know how to remove the old one? I've tried unscrewing it by hand and with some channel locks but don't want to scar it up badly in case I have to keep it. In the very top of the knob there is a rubber insert that can be removed. Once removed there is a small hole that goes into the knob. Is this some kind of release or does it simply screw off and I just have to get mean with it? I've replaced knobs in other cars and they all screwed on but maybe Caddy is diferent. Thanks.

the shifter on the right of the steering wheel on mid 50s - mid 90s were all more or less the same i'd assume at least my 74 and 80 have it... i'm not exactly sure... i've always just been satisfied with the stock one :-p i'd assume that plastic cap at the top has something to do with getting it off though

Got it off! Not sure this is the right way or not. Took some vice grips and a towel, clamped down, and twisted counter clockwise.........SNAP!!!!!!!!!!! Broke the threaded stud that it screwed onto about halfway up. Sometimes being a Sasquatch has it's drawbacks or advantages, just depends on how you look at it. At least now I can see the inside and looks like there was some kind of adhesive applied. Gonna continue to disect it and I'll let you know. Meanwhile the skull shifter knob came with 3 adapters and one was the right size to fit over the old half stud and slightly onto the shifter lever. Took a little JB Weld and attached the adapter and then slid the skull knob over the adapter and tighted the allen screw that holds it to the adapter. Let it sit all day at it's good to go. This way if I ever want to change the knob again I can loosen the allen screw, remove the knob, and yet the adapter will stay in place for the next knob. Don't see me ever replacing this one though. It looks really far out. There is a small button on the side that when pushed causes the red eyes to light up. COOL!!!!!!!!!!!:coolgleam
