How do i determine if my SRX is 2WD or AWD short of putting up on a lift? I bought it used and it was sold as 2WD but my friend showed me a sticker under the hood stating it was AWD. Can I tell from the VIN? Thanks for your help.

Look for the code MX7 that is for 5 Speed Auto AWD for my 2005 Northstar V8. this code is listed on the options sheet attached to the vehicle. I think they stuck mine on the door of the storage area at the back on the passenger side. I had that same feeling when I bought mine, the salesman did know it was AWD...

or just look under the hood by the fan cover - there's a warning for mechanic's not to put on a dyno - caution - awd vehicle

Also there will be a hump in the floor of the passenger side - steals leg room

or - you can get 4 really big guys to lift it off the driveway while you hit the gas - that's how I checked mine.

OK now I am confused. I have that sticker about not putting an AWD vehicle on a 2WD dyno. I am 95% sure mine is a 2WD version though. Is that sticker on everyones car too. I am going to have to look more closely at my SRX when my wife gets home from work in it.

There is no way to tell from the vin and I have an awd and there is no sticker warning the mechanics about putting it on a dyno. The easiest way is to crank the steering wheel over hard to lock (either way) and having a peek at the back of the wheel hub. An awd will be very obvious by a half shaft running into the back of the wheel hub.

Yeah I have an 05 V6 AWD, it has this yellow warning sticker under the hood centered on the radiator support warning of the AWD capabilities of the vehicle. You could also just look under the car on the passenger side, you will see the transfer case and driveshaft running to the front of the car; indicating AWD. Hope this helps.

I would go with King and/or Jake's advice.

The SPID (service parts ID label) on the SRX is located on the inside of the access cover for the jack storage area. Assuming that the SPID is original with the car, it should accurately reveal the equipment on the vehicle at production. If the SPID contains the code MX7, it was built with AWD.

While you're checking out yer SPID, look for my favourite: F55 (Magnetic Ride Control). Of course, that one's easily spied at the top of the strut towers under the hood.

AHHHH. F55. The most grossly under promoted option out there. MRC is phenomenol. I had it on my 06 SRX. Now its available on the Lade....only after I bought (leased) mine. Back to AWD, as stated, check the jack cover.

Holy crap guys I had no idea this thing was AWD. I just went with what the guy at the dealer told me about being RWD. I have had this thing since December and have never really took the time to look that hard. I dont know if I like it or not that it is AWD. Being I am in Texas in snows maybe once a year. How much of an option is AWD anyway from the factory?

Congrats! AWD was either $1600 or $1900 I think...when I ordered mine in 2006.

AWD will also help you in wet conditions or on sandy roads from a stop and has a very minimal effect on gas mileage. I would absolutely be happy and consider it a bonus if I were you!

EDIT: I just confirmed. It WAS and IS still a $1900.00 option.

Look at the under side of you font floor mats, all wheel drive will have ( awd ) maked on both front mats. Front mats are different on rear drive and all wheel drive.

I never noticed that when I had mine, but I do still have the OEM mats, so I will have to check that. What confuses me here though Delores is that I was 99% sure the driver's mat is the same no matter what. So why would both be stamped AWD? If you are correct here, you have found the single most easy way to determine AWD!

yeah, i think i recall that the VIN always says RWD. so i'm pretty sure there are quite a few dealers who sold a used AWD as a RWD if they just used the VIN.

I know i was looking for a used one and wondered why every vehicle was RWD. Dealers had 20 SRX's....all listed as RWD. Didn't anyone want to sell an AWD? Finally, i discovered that the VIN always says RWD.

Peeegeee, that either started with 07 or 06. I'm not 100% on which year, but my 05 does not have the 4.

That started in 2007. Some yahoos have added the "4" to RWD vehicles, like the folks who add Z28, 5.7 etc to wannabe vehicles, so that is not necessarily a sure way to tell even with post 2006 vehicles.

Now I want to add the SRX4 badge to my car. Is the SRX the same with just a 4 added to the end?

Yeah, all you need is the four. Either get it from the dealer or google "automobile numbers letters". Lots of places sell them (to match OEM). I added one to my 06 AWD. :shhh:
