View Full Version : sub suggestions? Matthew 07-11-04, 03:10 AM well, Im wondering what you guys suggest for a sub or subs. there are just so many options out there.:hmm:
I would plan on using an orion 250 hcca amp that is 800x1 @ 1ohm.
a small sealed enclosure would be nice. 1 10" or 2 10s" or 1 12".:hmm:
im not looking to be heard for blocks around, just a very nice solid thump.
whatcha think? Mystical_Ice 07-11-04, 11:10 AM how much you looking on spending?
we can make suggestions, but ultimately it's going to be you that needs to make a decision ;) Matthew 07-11-04, 01:50 PM shoot out all suggestions and i will go from there. CadillacBoy1992 07-11-04, 03:10 PM Money no problem .........I would go AudioBahn Flame Qs. Thats what my friend sells at his shop and they hit hard.:lildevil: LacSeville 07-11-04, 08:11 PM audiobahn, IMO, stay away...
800x1 @ 1ohm. you are going to need 1 DVC 2ohm sub or 2 4ohm DVCs (to get 1 ohm) The older Orions are solid amps though.
I suggest, however, using less power and put a S10L7 solobaric 10" in a 1.5 cu ft sealed box. I've powered one with 600rms (fosgate 500bd) before and it performed very well. I could turn it down and mix it in with the music for awesome SQ, or I could crank it and be heard around the block.
If you want to use that amp for sure, then you'll probably be looking at 2 subs... If you're looking for brands: I don't care for the new fosgate stuff. The older stuff (DVCs) is good stuff. JL generally makes good subs, both old and new. Matthew 07-11-04, 09:19 PM audiobahn, IMO, stay away...

would that amp be too much for 1 12" L7 sub? LacSeville 07-11-04, 11:09 PM not at all... that's about the optimal power for those beasts! I've seen people run 1000bds on 1 s12L7 in a ported box and make lotsa noise. just be careful with your gains. Matthew 07-11-04, 11:22 PM Do the L7s have good sq? Or should I just get a couple of good 10's?
What is a good model for jl audios?
too many friggin choices out there! LacSeville 07-12-04, 01:03 AM Do the L7s have good sq? Or should I just get a couple of good 10's?

Yeh, good SQ. I had 1 s10L7 in a properly tuned ported box and it actually had decent SQ. I had a buddy with a couple S10L5s in a sealed box and they sounded amazingly tight.
If you are trying to use up 800 watts, I'd try the W3 line. Mystical_Ice 07-12-04, 03:15 AM and if you're trying to use 800 watts and want the W3 line, i'll sell you my two 15s... because i don't want them. they're good subs though.
L7s aren't great SQ subs, but when installed right, they actually are very decent Matthew 07-12-04, 01:24 PM im leaning towards 1 12" IDmax at the moment. Ive read alot of good things about them.
They seem to offer good sq and spl at the same time. BUILDINGCTSAMG 07-12-04, 02:25 PM Try focal, expensive but really nice LacSeville 07-12-04, 10:09 PM Try focal, expensive but really nice
you aren't kidding! those are expensive! IDmax is a great sub too.
mystical...what kinda setup were those in? amp, enclosure, etc. i emptied my trunk last month to pay for my motor, and i'm on the hunt again. SoundAdvantage 07-13-04, 06:24 AM well, Im wondering what you guys suggest for a sub or subs. there are just so many options out there.:hmm:

whatcha think? If your looking for Sound Quality Subwoofers, These are at the Top of my list for SQ. http://www.diamondaudio.com (http://www.diamondaudio.com/)
If you want a High Powered SPL Subwoofer, These are hard to beat but they like MASSIVE amounts of Power to drive them. :D Depending on which model you choose > These subs are cRaZy LoUd :bonkers:

Today i was driving down the road and my hat was vibrating to the beat. You see them alot in compititions I think you should get 2 jl w7's 12 or 15 '' , and a jl 1000/1 for each to run to . That will thump the hardest
but you'll be spending some $$$
I have 2 15'' aluminum eclipse's and 1 jl 1000/1 and that hits hard too. Matthew 07-18-04, 05:03 PM I think you should get 2 jl w7's 12 or 15 '' , and a jl 1000/1 for each to run to . That will thump the hardest

you wanna give me a grant for about $2500? I will then buy the stuff and let you know how it sounds. ;) SoundAdvantage 09-06-04, 06:01 PM Matthew
Have you decided what sub you are going to use in your new system? If so do you have any pics and specs on it? chuckdobbins 09-06-04, 07:00 PM adire audio makes very nice subwoofers. ive got two 12" shiva DVC subwoofers, purchased them 100 each off a friend. they got for about 200 a piece on the website. adireaudio.com
theyve also got a competition subwoofer, never heard it in person but ive heard more than enough good things about it.
for an amp, i went with a JBL power series 600.1 its 1ohm stable but i run it at 2ohms i bought this one for 200 bucks, and ive been using it and using it and using it more for almost 2 years. a lot of people will have negative things to say about JBL amps but for 200 bucks i couldnt ask for me outta this thing.
i also have the original infinity reference 10"...its a good speaker, but the jensen 200.1 amp its powered by is junk. less than 100 bucks total for these 2 items. | |
